Coaches can’t make their players taller, and there are no magic beans to make players grow.
Here are five players, six-foot or taller, to watch play from the class of 2022 who are sure to be on recruiters’ radars.
MH, Lauren Schutter Lauren Schutter 6'2" | MB Wabaunsee | 2022 State KS , 6’1”, Wabaunsee – Schutter is a phenomenal athlete and is near the top of 2022 player rankings. She had 438 kills and 179 blocks in the 2020 high school season. With two more years of club ball and one more high school season her game will only get better. She is already being recruited by Division I college programs.
S, Katy Harris, 6’0”, Atchison – Harris is a tall setter with great hand and a solid court presence. She led Atchison with 385 kills from the setting position. She also had 236 assists and 181 digs. Harris is an all-around play who is deserving of looks from multiple levels of college programs.
OH, Lily Boughfman Lily Boughfman 6'0" | OH Little River | 2022 KS , 6’1”, Little River – Boughfman should be on the radar of every MIAA volleyball program. She is tall and flat out punishes the ball. She is without a doubt a DII talent and should be looked at by DI programs as well. She finished the 2020 high school season with 323 kills and 32 blocks. She is also a solid basketball player, who will garner attention from college basketball coaches.
MH, Abby Rose Abby Rose 6'0" | MB Smoky Valley | 2022 State KS , 6’0”, Smoky Valley – Rose helped Smoky Valley reach the state championship final and is looking to have a solid club season. She finished her junior year with 316 kills and 97 blocks. Like Boughfman the Central Kansas start should garner DII attention. Rose plays club ball with Fight Club 18-1 out of Wichita.
MH, Katy Hurd, 6’1”, Perry Lecompton – Perry Lecompton made big headlines in football, but don’t sleep on its volleyball program. Hurd is a solid tall talent who will lead the Kaws in 2021. She finished the 2020 season with 304 kills and 184 blocks. She has a big reach, great blocking technique, and should be highly recruited.
OH, Jaylyne Bell Jaylyne Bell 6'1" | MB Gardner Edgerton | 2022 State KS , 6’1”, Gardner-Edgerton – Bell will be leaned on in 2021 to produce for the Trailblazers. Bell finished her junior season with 275 kills and 253 digs. Bell is a solid two-row player and has big-time jumping capability.
Look for all six of these players to be ranked high when Prep Dig Kansas releases its next updated round of player rankings.
