Prep Dig Kansas is proud to announce the release of the initial Class of 2023 player rankings.

The Class of 2023 is loaded with talent and that talent will continue to improve.

Here is a scouting report on the top five players, all five of whom arguably could have been ranked at the top of the list.

OH, Brooklyn DeLeyeBrooklynDeLeye6'2" | OHWashburn Rural | 2023StateKS, 6’1”, Washburn Rural (Ranked No. 1) – DeLeye has a very high ceiling. She hits the ball just about as hard as anyone I saw play in 2020. She is a Division I talent who will have multiple suitors. She also knows how to win as Washburn Rural is a perirenal state contender.

MH, Sawyer ThomsenSawyerThomsen6'2" | MHFree State | 2023StateKS, 6’2”,  Free State (Ranked No. 2) – Thomsen is an excellent blocker. She has a big reach and has solid technique. She and another top-ranked Firebird teammate will make Free State a state contender for the next two years. Thomsen finished the high school season with 216 kills and 51 blocks.

OH, Aubrey DuncanAubreyDuncan6'0" | MHFree State | 2023StateKS,  6’0”, Free State (Ranked No. 3) – Duncan is a skilled athlete and knows how to fill up a box score. Duncan finished the 2020 high school season with 250 kills and 49 blocks. She could and Thomsen could play Division I ball, but I got a funny feeling they could both end up playing for MIAA squads.

OH, Heather SchemperHeatherSchemper5'11" | OHPhillipsburg | 2023StateKS, 5’11”, Phillipsburg (Ranked No. 4) – Philipsburg may be home to one of the more underrated players in Kansas. Schemper absolutely piled up stats in 2020. She finished the season with 351 kills, 126 blocks, and 131 digs. She is a big jumper and a player a college program can be built around.

OH, Ava TeStrakeAvaTeStrake6'4" | OHOlathe Northwest | 2023StateKS, 6’4”, Olathe Northwest (Ranked No. 5) – TeStrake plays on a loaded Owls squad. Her size alone put TeStrake on the recruiting radar. At six-foot-four and with a big reach she has a strong net-front presence. She practices with top talent every day in high school and club practice.
