Continue ReadingOver the last few months, we’ve provided you a lot of information about who are the players you won’t want to miss when the high school volleyball season starts in Washington next March. First, we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
It’s time to look at the 3A Pierce County district, which has seven high schools and some of their players with the greatest upside are:
Katherine Jenson – Outside Hitter – Junior – Wilson
Katherine Jenson proved her value as an outstanding all-around player for Wilson in the 2019 season. The 5’9” outside hitter contributed to the team’s success in several aspects of the game, cementing her name as a key piece for the Rams. Jenson was solid offensively with 85 points, but also played an important role on defense with 151 digs and 195 passes. Jenson scored 13 blocking points and 11 from the service line as well.
Rebecca Kjenstad – Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist – Senior – Stadium
Stadium had a strong and diverse offense leading the way to their district victory in 2019 and Rebecca Kjenstad was one of its key elements. The 5’8” outside hitter was behind two of the team’s senior in the pecking order, but still managed to produce at a high level with 76 kills and a decent 31 percent kill percentage. She also added to the Lady Tiger’s solid defense with 107 digs and 152 passes.
Riley Clark – Middle-Blocker – Junior – Lakes
Lakes has won only of their 13 matches last season, but opponents frequently had a tough time when trying to put the ball on the floor due to Riley Clark’s efforts at the net. The 5’10” middle-blocker user her distinct leaping ability and her good reading of the game to seal the net, registering 61 blocks in just 43 sets. Clark was also effective on offense, tallying 71 kills for the Lancers and added ten aces to the team’s total.
