As we mentioned, a few 17 teams kicked off their season in the Club North Preseason Warmup. The tournament was won by PVA 16 Elite, who went 3-0-1 on the day. The runner up was Mizuno Club North 17-1, who also finished 3-0-1 on the morning. South KC Juniors 17-1 finished 4th, while Southland Aces 17-1 rounded out the bunch.
Mizuno Club North 17-1
Club North as mentioned had a good opening to the season winning three matches and splitting with PVA 16 Elite. They are lead defensively by Lia Graham of Plattsburg. Autumn Kaderly, a high-performing setter from Smithville dished out 648 this fall. Her high school teammate, Isabella Reynolds joins her in the middle and provides a strong option to score points. Yanni Washington from North Kansas City has displayed the ability to hit from either pin. Liberty’s Rebecca Wright was very strong this fall in the libero and defensive specialist positions.
Mavs 816 17-1
This Mavs 816 has the pieces to be competitive both regionally and nationally this year. Lacey Higgins Lacey Higgins 5'9" | S Lee's Summit West | 2022 State MO , a two-year starter at the setter position for Lee’s Summit West is one of the listed setters on this roster. Jalyn Walruff of Blue Springs put together a solid season from the front row on the way to a district championship. Nora Larson had a strong year defensively for Barstow. New addition Sophie Kaster of Kearney will add height and versatility across the net, showing the ability to hit from all three positions.
Dynasty 17 Blue
One of the top “2” teams possibly in the country has a team with high-level talent and experience. High energy and talented Kate Brown Kate Brown 5'11" | MB Platte County | 2022 State MO can play any position on the front row and has developed into a solid passer. High school teammate Emerson Walter had a breakout season as the two helped lead Platte County to a third-place finish at state. Not to be outdone, Middle Caitlyn Burns was the steady hand for Liberty North as they completed an undefeated state championship run. One of our most underrated defenders in the state, Alexis Moeschler of Bonner Springs is a lights-out defender and throws her body all over the court.
Dynasty 17 Addidas
Dynasty has added a new dynamic to their program with their Addidas Academy program and they have some strong teams to kick off this new adventure. This 17s team is led by Liberty OH Madi Corf Madi Corf 5'11" | OH Liberty High School | 2022 MO , in our opinion, a player who should have been on the All-State team in 2020. Joining her on this roster will be Lansing’s Caitlyn Bishop. Undersized but easily one of the most effective and efficient setters in Class 5 the last couple of seasons. A name many may not know about is Isabella Limback of Santa Fe. Limback produced over 500 kills this fall and hope to keep that momentum into the club season. Skylar Weaver provides pinpoint passing and defense from the back row.
St. Joe Storm 17-1
St. Joe Storm was one of the first teams to shout themselves out on our Twitter post so we will show them some love! They have a competitive team featuring Abbey Conz of St. Joe LeBlond. The setter ended her season with 451 assists. Teammate Brooklyn Landes will be a target for her in the middle and also provides a strong block. St. Joe Central’s Anna Davis provides a steady defensive presence after a season that saw her earn over 200 digs and receptions.
High Performance 17 Royal
17 Royal will look to battle Rockwood as the elite team in the St. Louis region this year. Hayley Baliva Hayley Baliva 6'0" | RS St. Joseph's Academy | 2022 State MO will provide an offensive spark. Opposite Jacqueline Beville produced 127 kills during the shortened high school season. Defender Emma Garner is steady and a pinpoint passer from the back row. Sidney Hogan of Cor Jesu will provide a consistent ball from the setter position, Mia Trankler will provide balance in the middle.
Rockwood 17 Navy
Another one of the more talented two teams in the country, 17 Navy has a loaded roster. Olivia Klump and Nora Belden Nora Belden 5'7" | DS/L Kirkwood | 2022 State MO are elite defenders in the back row. Rachel Schipper Rachel Schipper 5'8" | S St. Dominic | 2022 State MO is a dynamic setter with great hands and placement. This team has dynamic hitters across the net in Kennedy Lane Kennedy Lane 5'9" | OH St. Pius X | 2022 State MO , Emmalyn O’Keefe Emmalyn O’Keefe 6'0" | RS Incarnate Word | 2022 State MO , and Caroline Glastetter.
Invasion 17-1
Invasion will field a competitive team this winter in the 17s division. Addison Baumgartner was an important piece from the outside in Grain Valley’s successful season. Summit Christian’s Avery Beitzinger played strong in the middle earning 166 kills this fall. Remy Covinsky and Macy Tauke were productive for their respective high school varsity programs. Emma Ayers should contribute defensively after a good year for Shawnee Mission North
