Continue ReadingWhile walking the Prep Dig Top 250 event last Sunday, I came upon court 6. Court 6 was full of outsides that can hit a bullseye from 30 feet away with a volleyball. I am not sure how all of these players ended up on one court but they were fantastic to behold while doing their business. With a court full of great hitters there have to be setters helping them out to look great. Let’s talk about the setters that I saw on court six this morning.
77 – Elise Mehaffy Elise Mehaffy 5'8" | S Marion | 2022 State IA (2022, S, Marion High School)
Elise is a 5’11″ OH from Marion High School who had 4.7 APS, 2.2 KPS, 2.0 DPS, 23 total blocks, and 24 aces with a 94.7% serve efficiency in her last high school season. She creates hittable balls and has great composure. She keeps her cool and motivates her teammates with good communication habits on the court. She has great serves and she has a high volleyball IQ.
80 – Madeleine Miller (2023, S, Mount Vernon)
Madeleine is a 6’0″ setter from Mount Vernon who had 4.3 APS, .3 KPS, 1.8 DPS, 2 aces with a 78.6% serve efficiency in her last high school season. Madeleine has great court awareness and balances her sets well for her hitters. She has good foot speed and balance, great tempo, and also good composure on the court.
31 – Morgan DenBeste (2022, S, Ankeny Centennial High School)
Morgan is a 5’8″ setter from Ankeny Centennial High School who had 4.0 APS, 1.2 DPS, 2 total blocks, and 18 aces with a 96.2% serve efficiency in her last high school season. Morgan is also a great server, according to my notes, has a great platform, can handle the ball whenever it comes her way, she can hit well, and block. She has a high volleyball IQ and is very fast on her feet.
53 – Maddie Hinkel (2022, S, Sergeant Bluff-Luton)
Maddie is a 5’9″ setter from Sergeant Bluff-Luton who had 6.3 APS, 1.5 KPS, 2.2 DPS, 36 total blocks, and 16 aces with a 91.6% serve efficiency in her last high school season. Maddie was the best setter at her high school this past season when Sergeant Bluff-Luton finished their season in the Class 4A quarterfinal match against Western Dubuque. She has great parity, composure on the court, great hands, can hit as well as set, she has a good platform, and is a consistent server.
