So many really highly respected athletes all in one place…it was impressive. I have missed the sounds of a full gym this year during our times we were not allowed to play and I am thankful we all had an opportunity to evaluate and enjoy our time in the gym today. Let’s talk about the defensive players I saw on court one this morning.
15 – Ella Becker Ella Becker 5'6" | DS/L Ankeny Centennial | 2022 State IA (2022, DS/L, Ankeny Centennial High School)
Ella is a 5’6″ DS/L from Ankeny Centennial. Her team participated in the Iowa State Volleyball Tournament, finishing in the quarterfinals with a loss to Ankeny High School. Ella had 32 assists, 4.5 DPS, and 14 aces with a 96.9% serve efficiency. My notes say that Ella was fast, had good digs, and would chase for off the court saves.
63 – Katherine Kouba Katherine Kouba 5'6" | DS/L Iowa City West | 2022 State IA (2022, DS/L, Iowa City West)
Katherine is a 5’7″ DS/L from Iowa City West. She had 19 assists, 11 kills, 4.9 DPS, and 14 aces with a 92.9% serve efficiency. Katherine is very fast and smart. She knows where the ball is going and gets it to the setter very well. She can also serve and hit with accuracy and efficiency. So good!
89 – Halle Ouellette (2022, DS/L, Ankeny High School)
Halle is a 5’5″ DS from Ankeny High School and a Class 5A Iowa State Volleyball Champion. She had 13 assists, 1.5 DPS, and 31 aces with an 89.5% serve efficiency. Halle hops to the ball really quickly, is very athletic, and anticipates very well.
60 – Lyris Kapayou (2021, DS/L, Marshalltown High School)
Lyris is a 5’2″ DS/L from Marshalltown and had 1.3 DPS and 3 service aces in 41 sets played. My notes for Lyris say that she places herself well, is smart, knows where to be, has a great platform, and is very consistent to the setter.
