Some call December a “dead period” when it comes to recruiting, since the signing date has already passed. Not true. There are plenty of diamonds in the Hoosier rough that still need a home for next fall. Here are four middles that should make an impact at the next level.
Kayden Holcomb Kayden Holcomb 5'10" | MB Floyd Central | 2021 State IN , 5-10, Floyd Central, Union
Kayden has been the rock-solid middle that everyone has coveted for years. She has length, speed, and can attack both in front of and behind the setter with ease. She has all of the shots a middle could have, and has that innate Union volleyball IQ that’s always above average.
Nicole Wilkinson Nicole Wilkinson 5'11" | MB New Castle | 2021 State IN , 5-11, New Castle, Munciana
As the “other middle” on a state championship squad (2019), Nicole was often overlooked, as her opposite has already signed with Alabama. One of the longest reaches of the remaining middles in the 21 class, she can defend from pin to pin and excels on attacks in front of the setter.
Emily Lynch Emily Lynch 6'0" | MB Plainfield | 2021 State IN , 5-11, Plainfield, Circle City
A strong, long-legged middle that takes advantage of every inch of her size is what you get out of Miss Lynch. She closes with the best of them, and can cover a ton of ground by taking long strides to get there. Naturally, with all of that length comes the ability to defend both pins as well as attack well away from the setter. Gaps, push ones and threes seem to be her specialties.
Techiya Jackson Techiya Jackson 6'0" | MB New Haven | 2021 State IN , 6-0, New Haven, Team Pineapple
The tallest on this list, Techiya is a latecomer to the sport, but her pure athleticism has made her learn quickly. Easily the fastest and highest riser on this list, Miss Jackson would much rather go fast and over you than wait for a slower tempo ball. Her improvement has obviously been in her jump, but most measurable has been in her hitting efficiency. She’s gained over 150 points in her hitting percentage in a little less than two years. She can hit in front of and behind the setter, and looks springy doing either. Her length on the block and speed from pin to pin keeps her from getting beat defensively.
