Founded by Terri Purichia and Eddie Smallwood, the club is one of the most prestigious in its area! There is tons of great talent at every level. Here are four 17-1 players to watch from Union.
Chloe Newton- You may have seen her name earlier in the year where she was ranked as one of the top underrated juniors in Kentucky, but in her 2020 season at Mercy, she excelled at the outside position. One of her best qualities is her ability to play in almost every position. Her versatility can be a key asset to any team. Newton had 167 kills and 168 digs on the year which helped Mercy to their 21-3 season and a state runner-up title. Newton is uncommitted as of now and will be fun to watch on this talented team!
Ava Norris- A class of 2023 defensive specialist from Sacred Heart, Ava Norris covers the whole floor with her passing skills! Her quick movements in serve receive and defense allow her to be a top-notch player. You can tell that Norris always works hard on the floor and gives it her all. Another impressive point is her ability to track the ball which helps her at any position. Norris is actually a year younger than most of her teammates, so this experience will be extremely beneficial to her. Norris is uncommited as of now.
Mary Schneidtmiller- The tallest player on their team, standing at 6’2, from Mercy is Mary Schneidtmiller. Mary helped her Mercy team with 47 kills and was a force in the front row. She’ll be great with this team because of her hitting ability but also blocking wise. Schneidtmiller said in an interview with Samantha Stallings at Louisville Catholic Sports that her favorite volleyball moment was, “When Mercy’s JV team beat Assumption for the first time in the LIVT tournament in the finals.” Scheneidtmiller always has a positive impact on her teammates, and she’ll be fun to watch with this group!
Reese Speed- A committed class of 2021 defense specialist, Reese Speed played for Assumption High School this past year. She’s special because of her ability to play multiple different positions from setting to passing. She played every game her 15s year for the KIVA White team and then UNION 16 Asics Thomerson back in 2019. Speed has played volleyball for five years, and her knowledge of the game stands her apart from many others. She will add depth to this UNION 17-1 team in many different aspects of the game!
