However, we see so many athletes that we can use to write about future events whether its with Prep Dig or another event we will be covering. What was so fun about the Quad Cities Clash, there were athletes that we’ll see competing in Badger Region events in Wisconsin, Iowa Regionals with the Iowans, and with the Illinois athletes we will see them in a variety of events across the Midwest/Mideast. Here are more athletes who turned out big time performances that will be fun to keep tabs on through the 2021 season.
Gabby Deery Gabby Deery 6'2" | MB Burlington Notre Dame | 2023 State IA – Iowa Rockets 16R
2023 – Middle Blocker
I had not seen this Rockets team play live even dating back to 2020. They earned a USAV bid to Nationals at Colorado Crossroads before shutdown, but they have so many weapons. Gabby Deery Gabby Deery 6'2" | MB Burlington Notre Dame | 2023 State IA is a long, athletic, physical middle who can have a major impact on the net offensively and defensively. She hits the ball square making a great connection with Avery Van Hook Avery Van Hook 5'9" | S Marion | 2023 State #134 Nation IA and hangs in the air which allows her to get a touch on the attack that makes you wonder, “How did she even get to that?”. She is one to definitely put a star next to when it comes to 2023’s to contact come June 15.
Jessie Julius Jessie Julius 5'7" | OH Williamsburg | 2023 State IA – Iowa Rockets 16R
2023 – Outside Hitter
This is another Iowa Rockets athlete I had not seen play live until this past weekend. Super dynamic. Julius is a strong athlete where she can attack from the pin with the authority and then head to the backrow and be a rock solid defender, a primary passer in serve receive as well as an outlet to score out of system. We are still playing catch up with the Class of 2023. Julius and plenty of her 2023 counterparts will be in the updated Iowa rankings due to come out early February.
Rowan Schreiber Rowan Schreiber 6'5" | MB Madison Memorial | 2023 State WI – Balance (WI) 17s
2022 – Middle Blocker
I have seen Schreiber play plenty of times, but this past weekend she was different Rowan Schreiber Rowan Schreiber 6'5" | MB Madison Memorial | 2023 State WI primarily playing out of the middle where she has always swtiched from middle and right side. She is also coming off of not having a high school season in Wisconsin and to see her thumping quick tempo sets this past weekend was just different. A high character athlete who has positive body language and high quality intangibles, Schreiber showed some flashes of scary swings where she is going to find her groove in the middle.
Maddie Moan Maddie Moan 6'0" | MB Woodstock | 2022 State IL – Sky High 17 Black
2022 – Middle Blocker
Moan is committed to UW-Milwaukee and she is going to be such a great fit for Susie Johnson and her program. UWM typically runs a 6-2 where they typically have the ball control outsides and middles and right sides who are dominant offensively and defensively. Moan can score off a quick tempo, but she is also extremely quick laterally where she can close the block getting from pin to pin. This 17 Black squad is so fun to watch and have a huge ceiling they can reach this season.
Sierra Studer Sierra Studer 5'9" | OH Waukesha | 2022 State WI – RVA 17 Navy
2022 – Outside Hitter
Studer is another who I know I’ve seen play through club and high school, but this weekend she was showing that being able to take a big swing definitely pays off. Tipping can be contagious, but so can aggressive play. Studer is not afraid to take a big swing and make positive things happen for her RVA team who finished 4-1 on the weekend. Lot of athletes on this squad who continue to improve in the first month of the club season.
Hannah Benes Hannah Benes DS/L Antioch | 2022 State IL – Balance 18 White
2022 – Libero
Benes is so solid, high IQ, and consistent as a libero for Balance 18 White who is full of athletes. For a team who hasn’t had many opportunities to practice together, they made a ton of progress over the weekend. Benes is also a high academic prospect who will have plenty of opportunities at the next level and rightfully so. She knows the game, has a solid fundamental base, and will be a great pick up at the next level.
Second set is finishing up here. More names to note. So exciting seeing new players!
Kendall Nus Kendall Nus 5'8" | RS State IA – @iowapowervb
Kendall Anderson Kendall Anderson 5'7" | OH Bondurant-Farrar | 2022 State IA – @iowapowervb
Kathryn Stephens – @IowaRockets
Molly Lawlis Molly Lawlis 5'10" | MB Pacelli | 2021 State WI – @WisconsinIce— Chris Fitzgerald (@PrepDigChris) January 16, 2021
Kendall Nus Kendall Nus 5'8" | RS State IA – IPVA 17 Black
2022 – Right Side
IPVA had some really close three set battles where they found themselves on the winning side the majority of the time this weekend, finishing 4-1. Nus is a left handed right side who hits a really heavy balll and is tough for blockers and defenders to shut her down. She also provides a big block herself. The Iowa Region’s 17s Division is loaded across the state and will be a battle come March for the Regional bid in Des Moines.
Carly Rolf Carly Rolf 5'8" | S Assumption | 2022 State IA – Platform Elite 17 Adidas
2022 – Right Side/Setter
Rolf is a really solid, all around player who can set as well as hit on the right side. She also brings a heavy top spin serve that can score as well. As a setter, she can get to the ball with her hands and make plays happen where on the right side she isn’t afraid to take a big swing and score points on her own. She makes so many positive things happen for her side of the net.
Macie Wieman – Balance 17s (WI) (TITLE PHOTO)
Class of 2022 – Pin/Libero
A swiss army knife. Wieman is such a great athlete where she can play a basketball game for a top five team in their division, wake up and play in a volleyball tournament the next day and not miss a beat. At 5’10, Wieman can plan on the pin or could even play libero/ds where she covers a ton of range and could provide a swing in the backrow. I know this may be minimal to some, but her ace celebration where they jump and kick their legs is one of many examples of her athleticism on the court.
Madison York – 1W Bay 15 Mizuno
Class of 2024 – RS
This team has improved from the first weekend of the season where they competed in our Prep Dig Resolution, finishing 4-1 this past weekend. A really scrappy team who finds a way to keep the play alive. York has to be nearly 6’2 with a big left handed, heavy swing where she can also put up a big block on the right side. She has the foundation to become a dominant play and I’m so excited to see her continue to develop her skills throughout the season.
Grace Egan Grace Egan 6'1" | OH Sterling | 2023 State #41 Nation IL – Fusion 16 Red
Class of 2023 – Outside Hitter
Egan is a really exciting athlete to watch where she can flat out dominate on the pin. Fusion 16 Red is definitely getting a taste of top competition playing in the 17/18s Division of the Quad Cities Clash and will play with the 18s Division this weekend at the Girls Winter Championship in Indy. Egan knows how to score points. She’s a physical where she can score from the pin and the backrow, always a threat to score. She will be high on the radar of plenty of college coaches when they can contact her on June 15 after her Sophomore year.
Ashli Harn – Flight 17U
Class of 2022 – Libero
So athletic. Harn controls the backrow like she is a shortstop where she is just looking through the net, anticipating where the next hit will be. She has great body control and platform awareness where she is so dependable to provide a solid first contact whether its in serve receive or taking pace off a hard driven swing.
Ella Barragy Ella Barragy 5'10" | MB Grundy Center | 2022 State IA – Flight 17U
Class of 2022 – MB/RS
Barragy was playing out the middle, but could be used in a variety of ways. She could play middle or right side (or any spot in the front row), but she is long and athletic where she can set the block and cause the opposite side to alter their shot. This Flight team is full of multi sport athletes all across the Cedar Valley and they know how to compete and win the close matches.
Maggie Duyos Maggie Duyos S Huntley | 2023 State IL – Sky High 16 Adidas
Class of 2023 – Setter
Duyos moves like a water beetle across the court. This setter is quick and gritty, getting her hands to the ball as much as possible. She plays with a fearless style where she is going to find a way for her team to win. Her spark is contagious on the court and for a 16s team to compete against strong 17s and 18s opening weekend was a glimpse of what this team will be able to do in 2021.
Carizma Muth Carizma Muth 5'10" | OH Randolph | 2023 State WI – Sting United 16 Red
Class of 2023 – Outside Hitter
Muth is definitely one of those athletes where she is always looking to initiate and attack. Before I saw her attack, I saw her in middle back and she was extremely active from playing her base to coverage, and also being available to attack. In the front row, she’s not afraid to take a big swing to light a fire in the rest of her teammates. Great energy and passion for the game, she has plenty of intangibles that are extremely positive.
