Although it may be scaled down this year due to COVID, the competition will still be fierce. Here is a look at a few of the top outside hitters to catch in action in the top division:
#6 Jadyn Garrison Jadyn Garrison 5'9" | OH East Ridge | 2021 State MN – Kokoro 18-1 (Premier); It only takes five minutes and you will understand why Garrison is a top recruit for the class of 2021. She has secured her future playing at Marquette University. She is a high-flying hitter who uses every inch of her 5’9” frame to overpower bigger opponents.
#8 Mara Schmidt Mara Schmidt 5'11" | OH Holmen | 2022 State WI – Southern Minnesota Volleyball (Premier); The Wisconsin junior has made the jump over to join a talented Minnesota team. She brings explosiveness and strength to their comparatively small line-up. Mara is a great competitor who knows how to put the ball away. Expect them to rely on her to lead the offense on the outside and at the serving line.
#2 Bailey Schaefer – KEVC 18-1 (Premier); From the Little Eight Conference, Schaefer is an undecided commit who has the passing and hitting skills to take on any college program. She had an excellent high school season earning close to 20 assists in over half of the matches. Look for her to carry over that momentum. This girl has no quit.
#16 Taylor Barrett – Crossfire 17-1 (Premier); This season will the perfect opportunity for the Champlin Park senior to showcase her skills. She brings consistent serving, unshakeable passing, and thoughtful hitting to the outside.
#19 Kammry Broadwater– Falcon Fire (Premier); The Falcon Fire team, out of Fillmore Central, will be one of the few smaller, school teams facing off against bigger clubs. Leading the way for them will be 5’10”, freshmen Kammry Broadwater. This team will look to stay competitive with their fundamentally-sound defense. Their passing puts them in position for Broadwater and others to put it away.
#8 Brooke Ramsey – Kokoro 17-1 (Premier); The Andover junior will likely set out of the back row and hit in front making her the complete package. Opponents will have a hard time keeping up as with Ramsey as she can score from every angle. Her quick snap on top of the ball is her signature style.
#10 Leah Jones Leah Jones 6'2" | OH Marshall | 2023 State MN – SWMNVB 16-1 (Premier); At 6’1” the sophomore from Marshall area will take the weekend off from basketball to overpower others from the outside. Her approach is so momentous she starts behind the 10 foot line and about 5 feet off the court. This stance and her long reach give her an angle that is almost impossible to block. Strategic in her play she is known for off speeds and extreme cross court shots. Jone’s could probably play on a 17’s team but will dominate the 16’s.
