In this article:
From border to border there are top athletes across the state who will be in action this weekend for another big weekend of club events. Nebraska Elite will be hosting teams from Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas City, and Colorado while Prep Dig will be hosting the Quad Cities Clash with teams from Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Here are some top uncommitted athletes to keep tabs on heading into the weekend.
Avery Van Hook Avery Van Hook 5'9" | S Marion | 2023 State #134 Nation IA – Iowa Rockets 16R
Setter – Class of 2023
Quad Cities Clash
Cold Blooded. I remember first seeing Van Hook as a Freshman make a big splash onto the scene where as a left handed setter she can dish or she can terminate. There is something about her game where she brings an “X-Factor” and competitive spirit that is contagious. She’s the type everyone needs in their gym.
Meredith Bahl Meredith Bahl 5'10" | OH Western Dubuque | 2022 State IA – Iowa Rockets 17R
Outside Hitter – Class of 2022
Quad Cities Clash
Bahl is a new addition to a powerhouse Iowa Rockets 17R squad that has consistently been one of the tops in the Iowa Region. This Class of 2022 is loaded with talent. Bahl has been a star for Western Dubuque and with her ability to defend and score from six rotations really adds to her game and another dimension for a high powered Rocket offense.
Need a Class of 2022 Libero? We have plenty.
Simara Amador – @nlightsvball
Jayna Bredenberg – @nlightsvball
Kara Erdmann – @wearevcunited
Alayna Finucan Alayna Finucan 5'5" | DS/L Webster City | 2022 State IA – @clubignitselect @TCVolleyballNIT pic.twitter.com/d62u2QhSCa— Chris Fitzgerald (@PrepDigChris) February 16, 2020
Alayna Finucan Alayna Finucan 5'5" | DS/L Webster City | 2022 State IA – Club Ignit Select 17 Blue
Libero – Class of 2022
Nebraska Elite MLK Challenge
I was extremely impressed with Finucan who stole the show as a libero last year at Triple Crown when Club Ignit Select won the whole thing, the best tournament in the country. Finucan can take pace off the ball and is so tough in serve receive. Her first contact is on point for Denver commit, Lauren Carter Lauren Carter 5'11" | S Winterset | 2022 State #43 Nation IA to run the show as a setter. Will be fun to see her take the court again.
Chloe Largent Chloe Largent 6'1" | RS AC/GC | 2022 State IA – Club Ignit Select 17 Blue
Middle/Right Side – Class of 2022
Nebraska Elite MLK Challenge
Largent has the ability to play out of the middle and the right side. A physical presence at the net with a high reach, but also the strength to really create a problem for opposing attackers with her block, she is one who can be a major mismatch. Her ability to be dynamic and play multiple positions in the front row really makes her a versatile prospect.
Piper Kirchoff Piper Kirchoff 5'9" | RS Dowling | 2022 State IA – Iowa PowerPlex 17 Black
Pin Hitter – Class of 2022
Nebraska Elite MLK Challenge
Kirchoff can sure pack a punch with her swing. She is a powerful attacker who has been a right side, but will be utilized on both pins. A very physical player at the net, Kirchoff is one the other side of the net needs to be aware of as she will score points in a variety of ways.
Ava Ashworth – IPVA 17 Black
Pin/DS – Class of 2022
Quad Cities Clash
IPVA 17 Black is going to be a scrappy team to compete against this weekend in the Quad Cities. A lot of these athletes have had plenty of individual and even big team success from this past fall season. Ashworth is one who can violently attract from the outside. At 5’11 and a big swing, she’s a pure point scorer. She can also step in to be a primary passer who can pass to attack out of serve receive. Expect her to see plenty of opportunities to score points this weekend.
Allison Bonnette – Flight 17U
Outside Hitter – Class of 2022
Quad Cities Clash
So impressed with Bonnette this fall as she was a very key piece to the Denver run to the Class 2A title game where they finished runner-up to Dike-New Hartford. Bonnette was named to the Class 2A All Tournament team to cap off an extremely successful season and red hot state tournament. She is also a key member of the Denver basketball team which was a state qualifier in 2020.
Laney Thoren – Flight 17U
Middle Blocker – Class of 2022
Quad Cities Clash
Thoren is quite an athlete where she is another multi sport standout for Grundy Center. She is a middle blocker who has an athletic style where she can play everywhere, even backrow if needed. She is strong, agile, and is really quick laterally allowing her to close from pin to pin. This Flight team is out of the Cedar Valley/Janesville area and has plenty of all around athletes on their squad.
Pypr McCarville – Flight 17U
OH/DS – Class of 2022
Quad Cities Clash
McCarville was a key piece to the tradition of Janesville reaching the state tournament. She is a high flying outside who can also pass nails in the backrow. Athletic, quick, and scrappy is how McCarville operates which is definitely part of the training and standard set by a strong high school program where many of the Janesville athletes have benefitted from the Flight program.
Elise Mehaffy Elise Mehaffy 5'8" | S Marion | 2022 State IA – Iowa Rockets 17-1
Setter- Class of 2022
Quad Cities Clash
Mehaffy is so smooth, a great all around player. She can be utilized in so many different ways for her team with whatever they need her to do. Primarily a setter, Mehaffy is so smooth with how she moves around the court and is very efficient with her footwork in getting to the ball. When she’s not setting, she can head to the pin and score points. This is a really dynamic Rockets 17-1 team who will be one to watch this season.
Molly Trachta Molly Trachta 5'8" | S Johnston | 2023 State IA – Iowa PowerPlex 16 Black
S – Class of 2023
Nebraska Elite MLK Challenge
Trachta is on the rise as a setter in the Class of 2023. Her PowerPlex team from 2020 was off to a strong start before quarantine and was battling in the Open level at Colorado Crossroads before shutdown. She was a standout for Johnston this fall and will be looking for one of her favorite targets in Lily Dykstra Lily Dykstra 6'0" | OH Urbandale | 2023 State #127 Nation IA , the top prospect in the Class of 2023 from Prep Dig.

Lily Dykstra Lily Dykstra 6'0" | OH Urbandale | 2023 State #127 Nation IA – Iowa PowerPlex 16 Black
OH – Class of 2023
Nebraska Elite MLK Challenge
Long, athletic, and a terminator, Dykstra is the prototypical outside hitter who does so many positive things for her side of the net. A high contact point, a solid defensive platform, and the ability to attack and score points out of the backrow, she is the type of player you need to know where she is at and where she can score at all times.
Sydney Mosinski Sydney Mosinski DS/L Nevada | 2021 State IA – Club Ignit Select 18 Blue
MB – Class of 2021
Nebraska Elite MLK Challenge
Mosinski is a major sleeper out of the middle and is uncommitted from the Class of 2021. A standout for Nevada where she was key in their run to the state tournament in 2019, Mosinski is strong, athletic, and is really dangerous off one foot. She can attack with a quick tempo and is really effective when she can run a slide.
Chloe Cline Chloe Cline 6'1" | MB Pleasant Valley | 2023 State IA with the presence at the net and Emily Wood Emily Wood 5'9" | MB Pleasant Valley | 2021 State IA is so tough to defend. A lefty hitting from the left side is uncommon and the Spartans taking full advantage pic.twitter.com/qWJqy9FvDF

Chloe Cline Chloe Cline 6'1" | MB Pleasant Valley | 2023 State IA – Iowa Rockets 16R
MB – Class of 2023
Quad Cities Clash
Cline is so smooth in the middle where she touches high and is so effective in and out of system. She jumps like a deer and was such a great combination with her high school setter, Kora Ruff Kora Ruff 5'9" | S Pleasant Valley | 2022 State #86 Nation IA where they advanced to the final four of Class 5A. Cline and her Rocket teammates will be one of the stronger 16s teams in the Iowa Region.
