First, we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
The 4A districts are up next and the Columbia Basin Big Nine, home of seven high schools in the area, is the first. Their three best players are:
Abby Black – Outside Hitter – Junior – Wenatchee
Abby Black’s offensive firepower was one of the reasons why Wenatchee won ten of their 12 district matches last season and made an appearance at the State Championship. The 5’11” outside hitter used her tremendous reach to make a difference for the Panthers at the net and complemented it with a tricky serve and good positioning and quick reactions on defense. Black was the district’s Co-Player of the Year in 2019 and received an All-State team honorable mention too.
Zoey Crimin – Middle-Blocker – Junior- West Valley
6’3” middle-blockers tend to make a huge impact in volleyball matches and Zoey Crimin doesn’t disappoint in that regard. The West Valley prospect has the tools besides her size to be a factor for the Rams at the net and she made good use of them last season, being one of the team’s go-to scoring options and its leading blocker. Most impressively, she has a high level of consistency, not typically found in players at this stage of their careers. In 2019, Crimin was rewarded with an All-League first-team nomination and an All-State team honorable mention.
Ashlynn Grasseth – Middle-Blocker – Junior – Eastmont
Ashlynn Grasseth was a standout for an Eastmont team that ended last season with a positive 8-6 win record in the district. The 5’8” middle-blocker jumps really well and she took advantage of that to register 135 kills for the Wildcats in 2019, the second-best mark in the team. Her blocking, which generated a team-high 27 points, and her serves, which result in 11 aces, are other of her main skills. Grasseth was an All-League first-team member and also received an All-State team honorable mention.
