First, we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
The KingCo district is one of the strongest in the entire 4A class with its ten high schools and their three best players are:
Kyleene Filimaua – Outside Hitter – Sophomore – North Creek
Kyleene Filimaua didn’t need more than one season at North Creek to put her name right up there with the best players in the entire state. The six-foot outside hitter has one of the most impressive all-around games in the state of Washington, one that was refined with hours of work on wooden and sand courts, a routine she’ll continue on her collegiate career as she committed to play volleyball and beach volleyball for Florida State. Filimaua had a stellar campaign in 2019 and guided the Jaguars to a fifth-place finish at the State Championship with 398 kills and 311 digs. She was awarded as the district’s Co-Player of the Year and earned a spot in the All-State first team.
Bailey Showalter – Outside Hitter – Junior – Mount Si
Filimaua shared the district’s Co-Player of the Year honors with Bailey Showalter, who also had a phenomenal season of her own. Even though Mount Si didn’t make it to the State Championship, Showalter, who also has her future secured as she’ll play beach volleyball for the powerhouse University of Southern California, posted some impressive numbers for the Wildcats with 363 kills, 89 aces, 432 digs and 531 passes. That performance earned the 6’1” outside hitter an All-State team honorable mention.
Bella Moon Bella Moon 5'4" | DS/L North Creek | 2023 State WA – Libero/Defensive Specialist – Sophomore – North Creek
North Creek was fortunate to have not only one, but two highly-influential freshmen joining their program last season. If Filimaua was the team’s go-to scoring option, Bella Moon Bella Moon 5'4" | DS/L North Creek | 2023 State WA became the Jaguars’ defensive rock in 2019. The 5’4” libero lead the team’s passing and digging efforts during the entire season and was at her best during the State Championship, when he registered 74 digs. Her great play was rewarded with the district’s Defensive Player of the Year award and a place in the All-State second team. She’s also part of prepdig.com’s class of 2023 watchlist.
