Defensively, these ladies are at the top by how they are able to turn defense into an offense by racking up digs. Let’s take a look at the top players at libero returning.
Seniors
Melanie Suarez (Kearny)
Suarez had a solid junior season for Kearny. She led the way for the squad with 261 digs. Suarez speed on the court was one of her best attributes as there was not a ball she could get too and help the team turn defense into offense.
Kimberly Romero (Memorial)
Romero was a focal point defensively for Memorial. Her ability to pass is what made her a solid libero. She put the team in the best position to be able to score with quality passes to the setter. She finished with 186 digs and 27 assists. Watch for her to show off her leadership skills as well this upcoming season.
Juniors
Genesis Colon (Hudson Catholic)
Colon was a part of double libero set up for Hudson Catholic. She was a part of the dominant Hudson catholic defense. She had 139 digs and 21 assists. Her versatility presents the opportunity for her to contribute. She was always ready when her number was called. She may not get the attention like her counterpart but she’s just as important.
Amanda Zweifler (Ferris)
Zweifler for Ferris was a versatile player doing whatever was needed for the squad. She had 77 digs on the team last season and received all-division honors. She was one of the few bright spots on a Ferris squad that struggled. She’s going to be a critical component for Ferris to bounce back this season.
Sophomore
Drew Leonardis (Hudson Catholic)
Leonardis was the number one option as part of the two liberos for Hudson Catholic. Her ability to get to balls that many thought would hit the ground led to her having a monster season as a freshman. She had 330 digs and 30 assists last season which led for her to have all-division honors. She’s going to be the primary component to how Hudson Catholic will continue their success. She’s one to watch out for this year and years to come.
These ladies put there teams in position for success and reach balls that many think it will be a point. They all have the capability to have great spring seasons’ and make impacts on their squads. Watch out for them as they will be battling it out for first-team honors.
