The JVA Smokin’ Rust Buster was held last Saturday and Sunday in Sevierville, Tennessee.
Following up from last year’s impressive performances, Legacy 16-1 ADIDAS started the year with a 6-0 record to win the 16 Open of the event.
Legacy didn’t drop a set over the weekend, including a 25-22, 25-10 win over Munciana 16 Ninjas in the championship match.
Harper Murray Harper Murray 6'2" | OH Skyline | 2023 State #2 Nation MI continued to display her play as one of the best in the nation for the Class of 2023, racking up 54 kills on the weekend while hitting .420.
Becca Apsey added 32 kills and 12 blocks, while Laurece Abraham Laurece Abraham 6'1" | MB Country Day | 2023 State #111 Nation MI had 24 kills with 16 blocks, and Abby Reck had 26 kills with eight blocks.
Erin Klin smoothly ran the offense to the tune of 167 assists, while Kaitlyn Hoffman Kaitlyn Hoffman 5'8" | DS/L Novi | 2023 State #81 Nation MI had 78 digs while passing a 2.4.
In the 16 Open, Legacy 16-2 ADIDAS finished sixth while Michigan Elite 16 Elite placed eighth.
The 17 Open saw Legacy 17-1 ADIDAS place third with a 4-1 record. Their lone loss came in the semifinals against Munciana 17 Pandas, 13-25, 25-20, 15-13.
Michigan Elite 17 Elite came in fifth for the weekend, while Legacy 17-2 ADIDAS was ninth.
The 15 Open featured two top teams from Legacy and Michigan Elite. Michigan Elite 15 Mizuno placed fourth thanks to a hard-fought 25-23, 22-25, 15-4 win over Legacy 15-1 ADIDAS, who would place fifth for the weekend.
Legacy 15-2 ADIDAS came in seventh, while Michigan Elite 15 Elite placed eighth.
In the 18’s Division, the lone division for the age group at the event, Legacy 18-1 ADIDAS placed third with a 4-1 record on the weekend. Their lone loss was to K2 18 Adidas Jota in a very close three-set match, 25-27, 25-23, 16-14.
Legacy 18-2 ADIDAS finished fifth while Xtreme Crazy 18’s finished 12th.
