This season is a little different with less opportunities in certain states, but there are still new teams making their way onto the radar, players stepping into new roles, or we are just starting to get to know them as the class of 2024 athletes. Let’s take a look at some of the new names found at the Prep Dig Quad Cities Clash.
#18 Abbie Honkala – 2022 – 5’11 – Middle Blocker – McHenry – Sky High Adidas 17-1 NS
#35 Alana Lucas – 2022 – 5’7 – Pin Hitter – Kenosha Christian Life – Sky High adidas 17-1 NS
Sky High has a very physical team. Honkala and Lucas are a perfect example of how they are aggressive and effective at the net. Honkala appeared to primarily play as a middle blocker, but with her high motor and power, she could be effective as a right side as well. Offensively she holds the blockers attention for Sky High while Lucas is an explosive attacker from the pin. Honkala is also a force defensively with her big block.

#24 Ella Ausmus – 2023 – 5’9 – Pin Hitter – Eureka – ESVBC Elite 16u Thunder
Ausmus is an attacker who can do it all. She can also be that “X-Factor” for this ESVBC lineup with her high snap and powerful swing. Ausmus is savvy and finds a way to score points for her squad.
#12 Kenzie DeFosse – 2021 – 5’7 – Pin Hitter – LaSalle-Peru – Lions Starved Rock 18 Red
This Lions team was both very energetic and gifted. They will be one to keep tabs on in the Great Lakes Region. DeFosse is one of the team’s top attackers, and it’s not hard to see why. She has a forceful approach, elevates really well, and a vicious arm swing. She’s not timid and will go through the block with a heavy arm to score points for the Lions.
#67 Makayla Weissenberg Makayla Weissenberg 5'10" | RS Deerfield | 2024 State IL – 2024 – Right Side Hitter – Sky High Adidas 15-1 NS
Weissenberg is a lefty with a strong approach. She takes smart shots while she gets lots of touches when blocking. Weissenberg just kept getting better and better with every swing she took.
#7 Maridith Helmuth – 2023 – Pin Hitter – Washington Comm – ESVBC Elite 16u Thunder
This sophomore has a high contact and is good in serve-receive too. She should be very fun watch develop for the next couple years. This player has a lot of potential and could really be a force with the right training.

#4 Mia DePrenger – 2022 – 5’3 – Libero – Iowa City – Hot Feet Fire dragons
DePrenger is a scrappy libero who is bound to take control as a senior leader in the back court next fall. She gets a ton of great touches and is solid in serve-receive.
