Continue ReadingWe all miss the action and the excitement on the volleyball court. It has now been over a year and a half since Men’s Volleyball has been played at the high school level. The opportunity has been granted for these young men to play the game they enjoy. There has not been high school volleyball in New Jersey since Spring 2019 and so much talent has gone through so I’m going to touch upon the top players we want to be watching. Let’s take a look at the top North Jersey Group 1 volleyball players to watch this April to June.
CJ Barker (Don Bosco)
Barker was a solid freshman on Don Bosco. Now, he’s a junior and has something to prove. In his freshman season, he had 101 kills and 14 blocks. Big things are still ahead for him with this year and next year still ahead of him.
Anthony Meirelles (Dover)
Meirelles was a fantastic libero for Dover in his sophomore year. He posted 234 digs with 8 kills. His ability to get to balls that many thought would hit the ground is what makes him a critical component to Dover.
Gil Zyndorf (Fair Lawn)
Zyndorf and Fair Lawn is one of those squads we’re intrigued to see with so many players now gone. Zyndorf returns as a senior after a monstrous sophomore campaign. He had 963 assists with 33 aces, 29 kills and 24 blocks. Fari Lawn was considered a state-favorite so can Zyndorf bring Fair Lawn back into the conversation.
Shane Conley (Jefferson)
Conley emerged onto the scene in his sophomore season with 112 kills, and 153 digs. Conley was going to be a focal point last year and now as a senior watch for him to be one to watch this season.
Alberto Torres (Paterson Eastside)
Torres was a monumental component to give Paterson Eastside reach their first tournament berth. He’s on track to reach 1,000 career assists with 610 back in 2019. Torres can pass from anywhere on the floor so watch for him to continue to wrack up the assists.
Collin Mills (Pope John)
MIlls was a No. 2 option for Pope John and fulfilled his role perfectly. He finished with 120 kills and led the team in blocks with 38. Now as a senior, he’s the guy for Pope John so expect a monsters season from Mills this season.
These young men had the game they love taken away from them last year due to COVID-19. Expect these guys to come out with a vengeance and purpose this spring. They are all going to have monster campaigns.
