The opportunity has been granted for these young men to play the game they enjoy. Don’t be surprised if this is one of the most exciting and competitive seasons yet. Let’s take a look at the top North Jersey Group 2 volleyball players to watch this April to June.
Santiago Lopez (Kearny)
Lopez burst onto the scene for Kearny as a star in his sophomore campaign. He led the way with 194 kills, 230 digs and 23 aces. Expect him to be dominant in his senior season. I have a feeling he should push beyond 200 kills in a shortened-season this spring.
Chris Lynum (Livingston)
Lynum made an immediate impact as a freshman to finish with 123 kills and 14 kills. He’s poised to be the number one option this junior season. Expect him to have a monster campaign.
Andre Eubanks (Payne Tech)
Eubanks was one kill behind his partner-in-crime and finished 198 kills on the season. Eubanks is another to become a number one option as Payne Tech is losing two of their hitters.
Justin Hong (Ridge)
Hong was one who sat behind a lot of talent in front of him. With five players gone, Hong is set to explode in his senior season. He did showcase his potential in his sophomore campaign with 51 kills. Watch out for him this year, he will be raising eyebrows.
Anthony Ngumah (Scotch Plains-Fanwood)
Ngumah was one who saw playing time as a sophomore and finished with 83 kills and 45 blocks. As a senior, he is set to be the number 1 option for Scotch Plains-Fanwood. He is more than prepared to take on his role.
Timothy Jimenez (St. Peter’s Prep)
Jimenez was a key piece as a setter on St. Peter’s squad. He saw playing time as a sophomore and made an immediate impact with 254 assists. Now, as a senior, it’s his turn to take on the responsibility to spread the wealth to his teammates. His pinpoint accuracy will be crucial for St. Peters do be a force again.
These young men had the game they love taken away from them last year due to COVID-19. Expect these guys to come out with a vengeance and purpose this spring. They are all going to have monster campaigns.
