We have just witnessed some amazing accomplishments throughout this unpredictable year we have just had. Texas was fortunate to have almost a full high school season and we were able to cover all of the players well. The 2022 class had a lot to do with how well their varsity teams did in the state playoffs. It is through their play during this past season that has helped us decide who should be where on the rankings. We always say that it is not an exact science, however proving it on the court in their position always helps solidify the analysis. We will be profiling players who were previously ranked in the state, but through great play, they made some serious moves up the rankings. Without further ado, here are a few players who moved up:
Jaci Mesa Jaci Mesa 5'6" | DS/L Smithson Valley | 2022 State TX [2022] 5-6 Libero (HS: Smithson Valley/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Jaci has moved up one spot to now be the 17th best overall prospect in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. The very first article I wrote about Jaci went something like this, “Very athletic libero Jaci Mesa Jaci Mesa 5'6" | DS/L Smithson Valley | 2022 State TX is a sight to see. Very little falls near her zone. She covers a lot more ground that one would think when looking at her. She has a laser focus when playing on the court that is refreshing to watch. She is uncommitted as of now but that should change soon once colleges get to take a closer look at her. Liberos and Defensive Specialists are flooded in the volleyball landscape, but Miss Mesa is one that stands out. Her balance while on serve receive is picturesque and she freezes very well to deliver a perfect ball to the setter. Her Alamo team is very blessed to have her commanding the back row. This is why I think she is one of the best in the 2022 Class in Texas. They are ranked as the fourth best team in the San Antonio area by numerous publications. As I stated back in the spring, her defensive range is phenomenal and her ability to stop on a dime and change direction for emergency digs is top notch. She possesses fast twitch muscle fibers that allow her athleticism to shine. Whatever college she attends will be improved by her play. She is still, in my humbled opinion, the top libero in her class.” We still have her listed as the best libero in the 2022 class and we cannot wait to cover her during the club season. I was able to watch Miss Mesa in action during the playoffs and she is very fun to watch. Her volleyball IQ in the libero position is unmatched and she is always in the right place to play the ball. Please help us congratulate her on continuing to move up the rankings.
Sydney Kroll Sydney Kroll 5'11" | MB Poth | 2022 State TX [2022] 5-11 Outside/Middle (HS: Poth/Club: Team Red Athletics/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Sydney has moved up one spot to be ranked as 48th top prospect in the wonderful State of Texas. In a previous article we wrote the following about Syd: “This dual threat volleyball player should be on quite a few college coach’s lists soon when the club season starts back up. She is a threat wherever you place her on the court. In High School, she plays primarily Outside, but in club she can play any position on the net. She travels almost an hour to play for a newer club out of San Antonio Team Red Athletics. They have the ability to use her at multiple positions and she excels at each one. She is able to play as a true six rotation outside hitter who never comes off the court and be a primary passer during that. She is also a tremendous blocking threat out of the middle. She possesses speed in her approach and awesome power in her swing. Syd is also a very accomplished softball player. If she wanted to, I’m sure she could play either sport in the NCAA. The sky is the limit with this one and she’s only a sophomore. Her Junior season should be very exciting to watch. Miss Kroll is going to play at the next level. The only question is where will she end up. College coaches should take notice now. She will be moving up the rankings once I update them this month. This young lady has both power and finesse in every aspect of the game. Poth relies on her hard swings and when they score they shoot extra life into the team.” She will continue to rise up the rankings due to her power and athleticism. Because of her ability to play in the middle, we have her ranked as the 8thbest middle in the class, but she is able to play anywhere on the net and be an impact player. Please help us congratulate her on sliding up the rankings.
Rebekah Williams Rebekah Williams 6'0" | OH Smithson Valley | 2022 State TX [2022] 6-0 Outside (HS: Smithson Valley/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Rebekah just moved up one spot also and is now ranked as the 51st best prospect in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She is a true six-rotation pin hitter who can do it all. We wrote an article on her school Smithson Valley earlier this spring and here is a little excerpt, “Coach Patton says that Bekah is an explosive player with so much contagious energy when she plays. She will be a threat for Smithson Valley on the outside with her versatility in offense. Bekah is a blocking machine and we can’t wait to watch her tear down opponents. She plays outside on her club team at nationally known club Alamo. She plays with a lot of fire and intensity. At Prep Dig, we love players like this. She has a cannon for an arm and will be one of the main offensive weapons for the Smithson Valley program this season. She has all fo the tools necessary to be a dominant force at the net. We expect great things from Bekah moving forward. When you watch this young lady play the game you are taken to a place mentally where you feel her energy. When she celebrates a kill, it is so contagious. I love players like this. She jumps so well off of the ground which helps her ability to get on top of a ball and obliterate it. She can swing in the seam of the block or go around them to hit line. And boy can she hit with power. She swings so well on both pins and there isn’t a shot she doesn’t have in her bag of tricks. Colleges should really take a look at this young lady as she will not disappoint.” Bekah has all of the tools to continue to rise up the rankings as we follow her career. I was able to watch her in person during the playoffs and she did not disappoint at all. What I love the most about her on the court is that nothing phases her. She has the confidence that you need in order to excel in the sport. She believes that the next attempt will result in a kill despite what happened the play before. That kind of uber-confidence that she has exudes from her personality and it is infectious to her teammates. Please help us congratulate her on moving up the rankings.
Please congratulate these young ladies for their hard work being recognized. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes.
