There are three players who have just recently committed to college volleyball programs recently and we would like to share the news. These young ladies have been hard at work during the high school volleyball season and have been also hard at work on the recruiting scene getting offers from schools and have made their decisions. Help us in congratulating them on the amazing news.
Jaci Mesa Jaci Mesa 5'6" | DS/L Smithson Valley | 2022 State TX [2022] 5-6 Libero (HS: Smithson Valley/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Troy University)
Jaci is currently ranked as the 17th best overall prospect and the top libero in the state in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. The very first article I wrote about Jaci went something like this, “Very athletic libero Jaci Mesa Jaci Mesa 5'6" | DS/L Smithson Valley | 2022 State TX is a sight to see. Very little falls near her zone. She covers a lot more ground that one would think when looking at her. She has a laser focus when playing on the court that is refreshing to watch. She is uncommitted as of now but that should change soon once colleges get to take a closer look at her. Liberos and Defensive Specialists are flooded in the volleyball landscape, but Miss Mesa is one that stands out. Her balance while on serve receive is picturesque and she freezes very well to deliver a perfect ball to the setter. Her Alamo team is very blessed to have her commanding the back row. This is why I think she is one of the best in the 2022 Class in Texas. They are ranked as the fourth best team in the San Antonio area by numerous publications. As I stated back in the spring, her defensive range is phenomenal and her ability to stop on a dime and change direction for emergency digs is top notch. She possesses fast twitch muscle fibers that allow her athleticism to shine. Whatever college she attends will be improved by her play. She is still, in my humbled opinion, the top libero in her class. We still have her listed as the best libero in the 2022 class and we cannot wait to cover her during the club season. I was able to watch Miss Mesa in action during the playoffs and she is very fun to watch. Her volleyball IQ in the libero position is unmatched and she is always in the right place to play the ball.” We have written about Jaci numerous times throughout the year and I’m pretty sure she will stay on our radar for the rest of this year and next. This time we would like to congratulate her on her commitment to NCAA Division 1 Troy University. They are getting a stud who will help their volleyball program the moment she steps on campus. We are extremely proud of her and will enjoy covering her during club season.
Tatum Torres[2021] 5-6 Defensive Specialist/Libero (HS: Arlington/Club: Texas Advantage/Verbal: Austin College)
Miss Torres is currently an unranked prospect according to our Prep Dig State Rankings list but is a great player from the Dallas area. She plays for the famed Texas Advantage Volleyball club who routinely pumps out college players. A 1st team all district player at Arlington high as a defensive specialist/libero, she has been a force in the back row. She has amassed 492 total digs and 95 digs in three years on Varsity. She creates a fantastic angle out of the right back position and is able to deliver a beautiful ball to her setter. What helps her ball control is her natural soft touch on the ball. She excels in serve receive and is extremely tenacious on defense. Austin College’s ball control just got a whole lot better with the addition of Miss Torres. Please help us congratulate her on her recent commitment.
Madison Pike [2021] 6-1 Middle (HS: Devine/Club: Texas Tigers/Verbal: Coastal Bend)
Miss Pike is currently an unranked prospect in the 2021 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings but that could change in the next update in a few months. We recently profiled her as an uncommitted 2021 in an article and here is what we wrote, “She is a tall and athletic middle who has starred for her team for the last couple of years. She has played Varsity for three years of her high school career and has been extremely productive. This year her Divine High School reached the UIL 4A State Quarter-Finals. Over her career she has 424 kills , 189 total blocks with 172 being solo blocks, and 18 aces. She is hitting at a .285 hitting efficiency for her entire career against some great competition. This past year alone she hit .390 which is a huge reason why they went so far in the UIL 4A State Playoffs. Maddie has been named to the TGCA Legacy All Star team for the 4A division this past season. She was also named to the TGCA 4A All-State Team as well. She plays club for the Texas Tigers Volleyball club in the outskirts of the San Antonio area. She hits a very heavy ball and is difficult to defend against because of the power behind it. She excels at blocking and puts up such a solid block against her opponents. She shows a lot of promise on her timing and reaches well beyond the net to solidify a great seal. Colleges who still need a 2021 middle should give her a look. She is capable of hitting both quick tempo sets and also gets a number of high tempo sets on the pin out of serve receive at her high school.” We are proud to announce that she just recently committed to Coastal Bend College. We knew it wouldn’t be long before someone took notice and gave her a shot. Please help us congratulate her on the great news. She will do great things for their program.
