However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
This time we’ll look at the 1A Evergreen district and our picks are:
Class of 2021
Ella Moore – Setter – Elma
Ella Moore has been the reliable and solid leader who guided Elma to perfect district campaigns in each of the last two seasons. The 5’11” prospect had the best season of her career with the Eagles in 2019, when she registered 382 assists (to an impressive average of 8.3 per set), 18 kills, 32 aces, nine blocks and 131 digs to her team’s campaign. She was rewarded with her selection to the All-League first team and an honorable mention to the All-State team.
Class of 2022
Malika Slassi – Middle-Blocker – Tenino
Good athletes are the ones with the ability to stand out even when the teams they’re playing for aren’t accomplishing the results they expect. That was the case with Malika Slassi, who despite Tenino’s frustrating campaign in 2019 – the Beavers lost all their five matches and failed to win a single set – still found a way to perform well enough to receive an All-League team honorable mention. The 5’6” middle-blocker, who’s also a basketball player, has all the tools to do better in the upcoming season.
Class of 2023
McKynnlie Dalan – Middle-Blocker – Montesano
Another distinguished multisport student-athlete in the region, McKynnlie Dalan was able to make an impact in Montesano’s volleyball team right off the bat. The six-foot middle-blocker immediately became the Bulldogs’ go-to scoring option at the net, leading the team in kills with 62, and she also the most blocks in the entire roster at 13. Her raw potential still needs some work, but she’s shown there’s a lot of room for growth on her game and was rewarded with an All-League first-team nomination in her freshman year.
