However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
This is the 1A Nisqually district and our picks are:
Class of 2021
Cora ter Kuile – Outside Hitter – Bellevue Christian
Cora ter Kuile is one of the elite hitters in the district. The 6’1” outside hitter embraced her role as a scoring force for Bellevue Christian and responded very well to the task, leading the Vikings in kills with 322. She also managed to have a huge impact in the team’s entire game ranking first in also aces (44), digs (160) and passes (318) – and third in blocks with 29. She was an All-League first-team selection and made it to the All-State team as an honorable mention.
Class of 2022
Kate Piasecki – Setter – Charles Wright
Calling Kate Piasecki the setter of Charles Wright’s volleyball team might be an understatement considering everything the 5’10” does for the team on the court. Besides setting her fellow Tarriers up impressive 653 times during the season at the net, Piasecki was also on the roster’s top-three in aces (first, with 83), blocks (second, 24) and digs (third, 223). She also doubled up as a right sider when the team needed some offensive power and registered 76 kills in the process, a weapon she incorporated into her game while playing beach volleyball. The setter was picked for the All-League first team and received an honorable mention to the All-State team.
Class of 2023
Isabella Irregui – Outside Hitter – Annie Wright
Isabella Irregui was one of a few freshmen who made an impact in Annie Wright last season. The 5’6” outside hitter was arguably the most influential of them because of her ability to impact several areas of the game with her all-around play. Her game at the net was good enough to pass the eye test with 83 kills registered during the season, but her backcourt skills are what make Irregui a special prospect. She was the Gators’ most efficient player in defense with 232 digs and serve-receiving with 178 passes and also added 32 aces. That performance took her to the All-League first team.
