It was the opening weekend of play for many of the teams. In many huddles, coaches and athletes expressed excitement and gratitude for even being able to play. At the end of the day, it was an awesome weekend of volleyball.
Only two teams came out undefeated in the 16 Elite division. Check out the top performers from the 16 Elite division of the Badger Region Power League this weekend.
FC Elite 16 Navy
This FC team was undefeated this weekend. With the huge hustle of libero Paige Miller Paige Miller 5'10" | DS/L Kaukauna | 2023 State WI and the efficient work of setters Rachel Koss Rachel Koss 5'11" | S Freedom | 2023 State WI and Macy Herman Macy Herman 5'11" | S Kimberly | 2023 State WI , this team was ready for battle. Payton Chevalier showed how dynamic she is on the right side. Middle hitter Autumn Flynn Autumn Flynn 5'11" | MB Luxemburg-Casco | 2023 State WI had many fast and brutal hits, at one point bouncing the ball over a libero in left-back. It was fun to watch this team work as a unit.
FC Elite 16 White
This FC team also did not drop a single set over the course of the weekend. Monika Stevens Monika Stevens 6'0" | MB Little Chute | 2023 WI was a force to be reckoned with in the front row. She is explosive in her approach and was a go-to hitter for this talented team. This team worked like a well-oiled machine and had a lot of success as a result.
FC Elite 15 Navy
This team’s only loss went to WI Juniors 15-1 in three sets. This talented FC team had some tough battles against Madison United 16 Red, Midwest Penguins 16 Black, and WI Juniors 16 Elite. Bryn Janke Bryn Janke 5'10" | S Wisconsin Dells | 2024 State WI is a dynamic athlete on this talented team. Emerson Van Lannen Emerson Van Lannen 5'10" | S Appleton North | 2024 State #144 Nation WI is a consistent and fast setter who picks up quickly on opposing teams weaknesses.
Midwest Penguins 16 Black
The core of this team has been together for several years and only dropped two matches this weekend. They have a lot of offensive firepower including middle blocker Myla Glaser Myla Glaser 5'11" | MB Kettle Moraine | 2023 State WI who is hard to block and has a heavy hand on the ball. Aubrey Berlowski Aubrey Berlowski OH Kettle Moraine | 2023 State WI , Mya Trafficante Mya Trafficante 5'7" | OH Sussex-Hamilton | 2023 State WI , and Alex Kiel are powerful pin hitters who can find great spots on the court.
Midwest Penguins 15 Black
This Penguins team also only lost two matches this weekend and played some tough opponents. The team is dynamic with several athletes who can play multiple positions. Ella Skogman Ella Skogman 6'2" | MB Waukesha West | 2024 State WI is a competitive middle blocker who had key, momentum-changing plays throughout the day. Pin hitters Ellie Schumacher, Abby Bauer, and Addy Leffler played scrappy defense and smart offense throughout the weekend earning points and helping earn the team to wins.
Impact 16 National
This Impact team is a very dynamic team. Ella Weber and Alivia Jeanquart Alivia Jeanquart 5'7" | S Notre Dame Academy | 2023 State WI are solid setters who move the ball around very well. They are also scrappy on defense. Libero, Mya Kapalko is great at both defense and serve receive. This is a team that is well rounded and should have a very successful season.
Unfortunately, I was unable to see Wisconsin Juniors 16-1 (5-1 record) Madison United 16 Red (4-2 record), or Milwaukee Sting 16 Silver (4-2 record) over the course of the weekend as I was also coaching this weekend. I hope to be able to watch these teams in weekend 2 of the tournament!
