Volley by the James afternoon Day 2
Volley by the James continued play into Sunday with round two of competition of the three day event. Great play continued with the evening wave with 14s, 15s and 16s taking to the courts. Masks on, game on. The three venues, the Greater Richmond Convention Center (GRCC) and the two Richmond Volleyball Club’s two outstanding facilities: Byrdhill and Stonebridge. The RVC Byrdhill and Stonebridge played host to the 15s Open and Club’s divisions. The 14s and 16s division all played day two at the GRCC. Evening wave action started at 4pm and played will into the night.
The Open division continued on with its round robin format for the 14s, 15s and 16s with several teams continuing strong first day performances. For the 14s open, Paramount 14-1 goes into the final day undefeated with strong contenders right behind them in Blue Ridge Volleyball Association (BRVA) and MVSA 14 Charge. with their eyes on gold. The 15 Open division has 4 teams that have had a string weekend thus far with Paramount 15-1 again leading the way with an undefeated record through two days. Three other teams are still in the hunt with Richmond Volleyball Club (RVC) 15-1, Maryland Juniors 15 Elite Black and BRVA 15-1 all with strong performances heading into the final day of competition. The 16 Open is another division dominated by Paramount with their 16-1 team undefeated at the conclusion of day two. RVC 16 National, Heart of Virginia 16-1 and Vienna Elite 16 F all looking to medal.
The 14s club first division featured three pools for pool play, followed by challenge brackets. They had one four team pool and two pools with three teams to determine who would advance into the medal brackets Monday. Bay Area Volleyball Academy 14s continued their strong play, winning the pool with a 3-0 record (6-1 in sets) with the second place Vienna Elite 14L moving onto the Silver bracket. Pool 2 winner Coastal VA 14 KP and runner-up ODAV 14 National advanced to the crossover pools later in the day. Pool 3 winner River Valley 13 Elite and runner-up Coastal VA 14 Victoria also advanced to the crossover matches. The two Coastal VA teams matched up in the first crossover with Coastal VA KP winning in straight sets to advance to the Gold bracket. Crossover two set up River Valley taking on ODVA 14 National. River Valley won a very competitive three set match 15-13 in the tie breaking sets to advance to the Gold bracket. The final cross over feature Braddock Road 14-1 and MVDA (MD) 14 Dynamite in a match up of team from the Chesapeake USAV region. MVSA dominated both sets to advance to the Bronze bracket. The second division featured two pools of four teams each. Dulles Youth Volleyball 14 Thunder and RVC Slate dominated their pools with undefeated records to advance to Flight 1 playoff.
The 15 club division showcased 12 teams in the first division. MVSA (MD)15 Starz dominated pool 1 to advance to the Gold Pool, followed closely by Coastal Hampton Roads 15 National finishing a close second. Timberlake Volleyball Club continued their strong day one performance with a spotless finish in pool 2 to earn the second spot in the second pool. The third pool was a greatly competitive group with three teams finishing with identical 2-1 match record and Bay Area 15 Blaze and Dulles Youth U15 Thunder identical records in sets with 5-3 records. BAVA advanced in the tie break to Gold. The 15 Club second division had Roanoke United 15 Red, Xzone 15 Red and BRVA 15-2 winning their respective pools.
The twelve teams in the first division of the 16 Club battled it out Sunday evening for the chance for Gold and saw some epic battles between some talents and driven young ladies. CORE VA 16 Platinum dominated Pool 1 with a perfect record and the golden ticket. Pool 2 was split RVC 16 Zonal and St James 16 Navy with RVC taking the win and advancing to the Gold bracket by the set win-loss tiebreaker. BAVA 16 Breakers dominated pool three for the final pass into the Gold Division. The second division featured three pools followed by crossover matches. ODVA 16 National dominated pool 1 to advance. Pool 2 was a battle of matchups with all three teams finishing with 1-1 records between Monument 16-1, ODVA 16 East Coast Blue and RVC 16 Slate. Monument won the tiebreakers for first seed in the crossover by the point ratio tie breaker. Virginia Volleyball Academy (VAVA) 16-1 dominated pool 3 to win a higher seed in the crossover. Monument, VAVA and RVC 16 Slate all won their crossover matches.
