Continue ReadingWe are back to turn our attention to the 2022 uncommitted players of the State. We have been publishing many articles on 2021 and 2022 players committing to college programs lately and we are ready to help more athletes achieve their dreams of playing at the next level. The 2022 class is primed and ready to show their skills off during the club season as it has just commenced. We have written about these athletes before but are here to update our awesome readers on their accomplishments during this past high school season. Take note of their names as they are ready for the big stage.
Kaila Garnett Kaila Garnett 5'10" | RS Plano West | 2022 State TX [2022] 5-10 Right Side/Outside (HS: Plano West/Club: Attack/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Miss Garnett is currently ranked as the 55th best prospect in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. We wrote an article previously last spring and here is a little what we wrote, “She has burst onto the scene quickly and has caught my eye. This powerful lefty is so smooth when she attacks. She might not be the prototypical height for a right side, but she makes up for that with her vertical. She can rise up easily and challenges all attacks. She is blessed with a left arm that is golden. I talk about power a lot but this one is the real deal. But the one aspect that makes me keep watching her film is her silky smooth and very deceptive off-speed game. When you are constantly banging away and then add in a soft roll shot, it is almost unstoppable. She uses both power and finesse so well against her opponents. She hits very well for her club team out of serve receive on both pins and scores at will. If there is a small school looking for a six rotation pin hitter and needs a point scorer, look no further than Miss Garnett.” We were following her Plano West squad closely and she helped them to a great season with a record of 19-4 overall and a district record of 12-2. This year she stepped it up and had 165 kills, while hitting an amazing .291 hitting percentage. She also had 23 blocks to go along with the awesome attacking. She helped lead them to the UIL State playoffs and they barely lost a tough five setter to Guyer. She is now in her club season with Attack Volleyball out of Lewisville. She has just the right power, finesse and hang time to continue to be a force at the net for any team. We truly believe that coaches should give her a look now. You will not be disappointed in her capabilities.
Mallorie Garner Mallorie Garner 5'11" | OH Bridgeland | 2022 State TX [2022] 6-1 Outside (HS: Bridgeland/Club: TAV Houston/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Mallorie is currently ranked as the 73rd best prospect in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. In a previous article we wrote the following,“She has a great frame for a pin hitter and possesses serious pop on a high tempo attack on the left side. I truly like the way she approaches to the ball and hits as if her life depended on it. She swings with power and purpose to get the kill for her team. What allows her to do this is her footwork. It is very nice to see footwork like this from a tall pin hitter. This tells me that she has been trained very well and she is extremely coachable. I think she has a very high ceiling and could help out a college program in a few years. She would be someone for a small school to watch over her junior and senior seasons. I know that Director Lind will get her ready for the next level really soon. TAV uses her as a six-rotation player and she is able to dig very well for them in the middle back area.” She has done well for the Bridgeland volleyball varsity team. This past year she had a great year and was able to amass 193 kills and hit a .226 hitting percentage. She also had 10 aces to go along with 19 blocks and added 140 digs. She helped the Bridgeland program have a phenomenal year on the volleyball court this past season. Miss Garner was a huge reason why they went deep in the UIL State Playoffs. They had a 21-4 overall record and a district record of 13-1. She also earned 1st Team All District for 16-6A. Keep an eye on this one as she could easily help a college program.
Brianna McDonald Brianna McDonald 5'7" | RS FB Travis | 2022 State TX [2022] 5-8 Outside/Right Side/Defensive Specialist (HS: FB Travis/Club: Absolute Volleyball Academy/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Bri is currently ranked as the 79th best prospect in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. In a previous article we wrote the following,“This little lefty is a firecracker of a player. She has some serious bounce to her game and plays with tons of heart. She is able to play all the way around on the court and excels in a variety of fashions for her Tornados club out of Houston. I love covering smaller players because they know they must outwork taller competition. Brianna is this type of player. In order for her to compete, she must master the art of timing her attack. This gives her a smaller window to hit into in order to score, but she doesn’t shy away from wanting to attack the ball. She hits well on both pins and has a great back row game also. She contacts the ball very high and hits at the peak of her reach very well to get every inch out of her approach touch. Don’t sleep on this kid just because she isn’t as tall. She will wow you with her ability to press on the block and shut down opposing outsides.” In two years on Varsity so far, Miss McDonald has been able to pad the stat book with 188 kills, 354 service receptions, 41 aces, and have 353 digs. She earned 1st Team All District honors for her Fort Bend Travis squad. She has also been named to the AVCA 2020 Phenom Watch List. She is now playing for a wonderful club out of the south Houston area in AVA. She will be in great hands with Absolute Volleyball Academy as they routinely pump out college athletes from their program. We are excited to continue to watch her grow as a player and we think coaches should keep an eye out for her as someone can definitely use her athleticism on a college roster.
