Continue ReadingThis series of articles was a fan favorite as it highlighted many of our wonderful athletes in the great State of Texas who are blessed with good height genes. These young ladies we profiled were all over six feet tall and excelled on the volleyball court. We are going to update each of them with their progress that they made during the high school season. We are excited to watch them now in their club season tear it up on the court. College coaches all know these names and you should too.
Jordyn Williams Jordyn Williams 6'2" | MB Guyer | 2021 State TX [2021] 6-2 Middle (HS: Guyer/Club: Texas Advantage/ Signed: Kentucky)
Jordyn is the 34th ranked prospect in the 2021 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. In our previous article we stated the following, “After helping lead her TAV club to a second place finish in last years USA volleyball Junior Nationals Open division, she had a stellar junior season with her State ranked Denton Guyer School. She has a verbal commitment to SEC Champion Kentucky which she will attend in a few years. She is a dominant force at the net for both her school and club teams. She runs a mean slide behind her setter and scores at will with it. Her power is feared by her opponents as she swings on every attack with so much force. I like the way she uses her footwork to make sure that she is utilizing momentum behind every swing. Kentucky is getting a good one to stay atop the SEC for the next few years.” She has not disappointed so far in her senior season. She helped them to a 14-6 overall record and a district record of 10-2 in one of the toughest districts in the state. She amassed 222 kills, hit a .282 hitting percentage, 105 total bocks and also contributed 28 aces. She was also named to the prestigious group of Under Armor All American team as one of the best volleyball players in the nation. Her and her TAV 18 Black team are off to a wonderful start this club season. They are electric and have a fantastic coaching staff to help Jordyn get ready for Kentucky.
Kennedi Bray Kennedi Bray 6'2" | OH McNeil | 2022 State TX [2022] 6-2 Middle/Outside (HS: McNeil/Club: Roots/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kennedi is currently ranked as the 47th ranked prospect in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. In our previous article we said the following, “Kennedi’s very lengthy frame allows her to be very versatile at the net for her school and club teams. She can play anywhere along the net. Roots volleyball club, formerly Eclipse, uses her primarily in the middle. She runs a very nice quick set in front of her setter at a pretty fast tempo. Because of extremely long arms, she scores at a good clip with it. She is able to hit both cut and cut back with the 51 set. She has a tough jump serve and is able to play back row after very well. She has a very high ceiling in the sport and we are excited to watch her grow as a player over the next few years.” This young lady has shined ever since she stepped on the scene for her Varsity squad as a freshman when she was named District 13-6A Newcomer of the Year that year. She has followed it up with a wonderful showing this past season as a sophomore starter. She started off the year in the preseason as one of the candidates for Vype Middle Blocker of the year. She was able to be on Prep Volleyball’s Watch List. And has been tearing it up with her Roots Club volleyball team in the open division of most tournaments. We are excited for her growth and will keep on watching to see her progress.
Kate Hansen Kate Hansen 6'3" | MB Weatherford | 2023 State #67 Nation TX [2023] 6-3 Middle (HS: Weatherford /Club: Texas Advantage/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kate is currently ranked as the 19th ranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. In our previous article we said the following, “While the 2023 class is young, players like Kate certainly have my attention. I’m sure she will have the attention of college coaches soon once volleyball resumes. She is a dominant force as a freshman middle in the Dallas area. The most notable aspect of her game will definitely be her power on her attacks. They will never go unnoticed. Myself, I am very intrigued more so by her footwork. It is beyond her years to be able to move like that in transition off the net and toward her setter. She has the ability to move up those rankings quite a bit with the future I see for her. Coaches take note of her now as she won’t be a secret long.” I have been watching very closely and this past season she earned so many honors with her play on her Varsity squad. She was one of the main weapons on their team and helped them to a wonderful record of 23-2 overall and a 14-0 district record. She had 237 kills, hit a .342 efficiency, 86 blocks and 10 aces as a sophomore. Her local newspaper, the Star Telegram named her the Blocker of the Year. The Texas Sports Writers Association named her 6A All State 2nd team. The accolades will not stop anytime soon. We are excited to watch as she and her TAV 17 Black team are killing it so far this club season.
Be on the lookout for the rest of this series as we tap into more players who are blessed to be tall and play with such great skills. Stay tuned for more players in our next article. If you have any other players you think we should highlight, please email me at nov8vb@yahoo.com.
