Continue ReadingSetters mean the most to me. I was a setter back in the sideout scoring days, so I have a special affinity for this group of kids. These five setters will definitely make a difference come fall of ’22, and they come from all over the state.
Grace Reynolds Grace Reynolds 5'9" | S Martinsville | 2022 State #167 Nation IN , 5-8, Circle City 17 Purple
If it’s possible, Grace’s hands have actually improved with her upper body getting stronger since last fall. She’s the best setter available in this class from Indiana, and is the captain of Circle’s top 17s team. She leads by example, gets the right set to the right players, and has led this team to success despite losing their head coach a few weeks ago.
Kylie VanHoy Kylie VanHoy 5'10" | S Loogootee | 2022 State IN , 5-10, Evansville United 17 Maroon
Kylie is a hybrid of a player, but will most likely be a setter when the fall of ’22 comes around. She can play either pin as an attacker in a pinch, and is strong and fast enough to get to any ball and make it hittable. I like her size, too, as she’s the biggest on this list and can get the tight passes when needed.
Reagan Nuss Reagan Nuss 5'6" | S Brownstown Central | 2022 State IN , 5-6, Cougar 18s
Reagan has multiple all-state awards on her mantle to go with that state championship trophy from 2019. She’s the fastest on this list, and can do almost anything that the rest of these setters can do. Contrary to popular belief, her size is NOT an issue, as she runs a 5-1 with both the Cougar and high school program she plays with. Her defense is above average as well, despite a lot of setters in Indiana.
Reagan Kane Reagan Kane 5'9" | S Columbus North | 2022 State IN , 5-9, Circle City 17 Black
Running a 5-1 is not easy. Running a 5-1 with not the best of passing is another story entirely, as Miss Kane showed off her abilities recently at the 17 Open division of Central Zones a couple of weeks ago. She’s relentless, she’s accurate, and she’s a positive force for a young, undersized squad that gave Legacy 17-1 all it could handle in the quarterfinals a few weeks ago. She doesn’t complain, she doesn’t pout, and she gets the job done. What more could you ask for?
Maddie Kmetz Maddie Kmetz 5'9" | S Andrean | 2022 State IN , 5-7, Michio 17 National
We go WAY up north for Maddie, who’s been running a 5-1 on her high school team since her freshman year. She’s unassuming at first; 5-7, good skill, great hitters around her. But it is no accident how her teams always seem to win. A lot. Someone has to feed them the ball, whether the pass is great or not. Maddie is up to the task, and then some.
