We’ve finally released our class of 2023 rankings for the state of Indiana, and there’s not much change at the top, but there are additions in all four main positions (Pin, Middle, Setter, DS) that have caught our eyes. Here are five pin attackers you should know about already.
Chloe Chicoine
ChloeChicoine5'9" | OHMcCutcheon | 2023StateIN, 5-9, OH, Circle City 17 Purple
Of the players on this list, none have played at a higher level and on a national stage as big as the one Chloe is on. She’s a member of the U.S. Youth National Training Team, she carried McCutcheon High School to the semi state for the first time in school history, and she’s already won a tournament in this young club season in 17 Open. This is a can’t-miss, full-go, no-quit six-rotation outside that will make some coach happy in the fall of 2023.
Quinci ThomasQuinciThomas6'3" | OHBrownsburg | 2023StateIN, 6-3, OH, Circle City 16 Purple
This long, lean and springy outside is coming into her own as a six-rotation outside, and with her developing serve receive skills, has a bright future ahead. On the attack, she goes over blockers and can hit angles most can’t because of her length. Bringing a

On the attack, she goes over blockers and can hit angles most can’t because of her length. Bringing a sectional title to her high school (Brownsburg) for the first time since this author can remember, Quinci’s high school outside hitting partner from the ’22 class has already committed to Colorado. This tells me that both her high school and club teams will be successful for years to come.
Faith BurchFaithBurch5'10" | RSRoncalli | 2023StateIN, 5-10, RS, Circle City 16 Purple
On the other pin from Quinci (this author saw them two rotations apart from each other at CZ) is a lefty banger that is closing in on a ten foot attack touch and can hit from the front and back rows with ease. She can also take the second ball in a pinch and defends better than the average right side (note that most right sides in Indiana get subbed out; Faith does not.).
Olivia FishOliviaFish6'3" | OHSeymour | 2023StateIN, 6-3, OH, KIVA 17 Red
Going across the Ohio River for her training, Olivia plays up an age group with the big girls and is a force on the left. Her attack touch is also slowly getting to ten feet, and her serve receive is improving. I like how versatile she is; she was forced to play middle in high school, mostly because of their lack of size. No matter---Miss Fish can do it all with ease.
Chloe CookChloeCook5'9" | OHWapahani | 2023StateIN, 5-9, OH, Munciana 16 Ninjas
We bookend our list of pins with another 5-9 six-rotation gem from the Muncie area. Chloe is the spitfire of an outside that you wish you had. Regardless of score, Miss Cook is always 100% in every aspect of her game, a perfect player in coach Randy Gardner’s system. Do not underestimate this kid; she brings it with a heavy ball and a high volleyball IQ.
