Continue ReadingThe start of the high school volleyball season in Washington is closer than ever and at this point, you should already be very familiar with the best teams and the most impressive players from each district as we analyzed them in detail for the last few months in our several different series.
However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
The Greater Spokane District is one of the largest in the state reuniting 15 high schools from the 2A, 3A and 4A classes and here are the players we selected:
Class of 2021
Tia Allen Tia Allen 5'11" | OH Mt Spokane | 2021 State WA – Outside Hitter – Mt. Spokane
Tia Allen Tia Allen 5'11" | OH Mt Spokane | 2021 State WA is not only the best player in her class, but she was also considered the Most Valuable Player in the entire district and the Player of the Year in the 3A class in 2019, when she guided the Wildcats to win the State Championship for a second-straight year. The 5’11” outside hitter is the main reason for the team’s success as she’s a truly complete player, with the backcourt skills needed to make the play and the power and speed to be highly effective on offense. Ranked fifth on prepdig.com’s class of 2021 rankings, Allen played a pivotal role in Mt. Spokane’s victory against Capital last year with 14 kills.
Class of 2022
Telia Allen – Setter/Outside Hitter – Mt. Spokane
Tia might be leaving Mt. Spokane after next season but the Allen family will by no means be underrepresented in 2022 as her sister Telia will remain with the team. A versatile player, who’s capable of playing as a setter or an outside hitter, the 5’10” is built on the same mold as her older sister with an impressive all-around game. Last season she was deployed as a setter for the Wildcats and had an outstanding performance in the State Championship final against Capital with 22 assists and 17 digs, cementing her spot at both the All-State and All-League first teams.
Class of 2023
Kate Palelek Kate Palelek 5'3" | S Gonzaga Prep | 2023 State WA – Setter – Gonzaga Prep
The Greater Spokane is a tough division for freshmen but Kate Palelek Kate Palelek 5'3" | S Gonzaga Prep | 2023 State WA was able to prove her value in her first year of high school volleyball with Gonzaga Prep. The 5’3” setter, who aspires to enter the collegiate environment as a beach volleyball player, has great technique and posted some significant numbers in her first season with the Bullpups, most notably her 363 assists and 44 aces, which were both the most among the entire roster, and her 120 digs, good enough for third in the team. She’s part of prepdig.com’s class of 2023 watchlist.
