However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
It’s time we look at the 2B Central Washington District, where our picks are:
Class of 2021
Jozlyn Hansen – Libero – Lake Roosevelt
Lake Roosevelt can proudly say they have arguably the top defensive players in the district in Jozlyn Hansen and the libero’s presence has helped the team significantly last season as the Raiders ended a 28-year-old wait to reappear at the State Championship. Hansen was a big part in that with her solid and always reliable work at the backcourt and her strong passing presence. The 5’4” libero was rewarded with an honorable mention for the All-State team.
Class of 2022
Josephine Thompson – Outside Hitter/Setter – Manson
The fact that Josephine Thompson was the only Mason player selected for the All-League first team and to appear at the All-State team (as an honorable mention) reflects exactly how important she is for the Trojans. The 5’10” outside hitter was the team’s leading scorer for the entirety of the season but her excellent technical skills also allow her to efficiently play as a setter. Her great all-around game includes good defensive skills, a solid presence at the net and damage-causing serving ability.
Class of 2023
Abigail Boesel – Setter – Brewster
Setters are oftentimes the players that need the most time to adjust to a new competition level but Abigail Boesel ignored that last season. Then a freshman, the 5’6” prospect walked into District winners Brewster’s starting lineup as if she was playing middle school games and immediately became a key piece for the Lady Bears. Her ball distribution was outstanding, with 700 assists delivered during the season (an average of 8.4 per set) and she also added 144 digs and 44 aces for her team as they marched to the State Championship.
