However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
The Mid-Columbia District presents high schools from the 3A and 4A class and here are the players we picked:
Class of 2021
Marin Mackey – Middle-Blocker – Richland
Marcin Mackey’s presence at the center of Richland’s net did wonders for the team in their 2019 campaign. The six-foot middle-blocker was a stud for the Bombers with her explosive and diversified offense and also provided some great value for the team on the defensive side of the game with her solid blocking. Mackey’s contributions to the team’s success didn’t go unnoticed as she earned an All-State team honorable mention and an All-League first-team selection.
Class of 2022
Autumn Larson – Outside Hitter – Kennewick
Autumn Larson’s 6’3” frame makes of her a really valuable offensive weapon for Kennewick. Capable of playing as an outside hitter and an opposite, she combines good size and a fantastic shot selection, making it very difficult for opponents to stop her at the net. Larson can be a treat even when she’s in the back row and while her defensive game still needs some work, her scoring ability alone makes of her a top prospect. Last season’s great campaign for the Lady Lions took her to the All-State team as an honorable mention and to the All-League second team.
Class of 2023
Kenzie Nealon – Opposite/Middle-blocker – Richland
Not many teams in the district featured freshmen on their rosters in 2019 and Kenzie Nealon was fortunate to have her spot at Richland, arguably the strong program in the region. There’s a lot to like about her as a prospect, most notably her 5’11” frame and her versatility, which allow her to play as either an opposite or a middle-blocker, so expect a decent level of Nealon in the next three years.
