Here is a look at five players from the Class of 2022 at six schools who were hitting machines in 2020.
OH, Brooke Leiker, 6’0”, Blue Valley West– Leiker is tall and can jump. She finished her 2020 season with 216 kills. A total that was second on the team to fellow junior Taylor Stockman Taylor Stockman 5'11" | OH Blue Valley West | 2022 State KS . Leiker has a nice swing and will be on the radar for college recruiters looking to fill needs from the Class of 2022.
OH, Gianna Cooper, 5’9”, Lawrence – The Chesty Lions should be competitive and 2021 and Cooper will be a significant reason why. She finished her junior season with 185 kills. She is a solid six-rotation prospect who also had 259 digs in 2021.
OPP, Tatum Boettjer Tatum Boettjer 6'2" | RS Derby | 2022 State KS , 6’3”, Derby – I did not see Derby play in 2020, but it will be a program I’d like to see in 2021. Boettjer is a raw talent worth making a trip to watch in person. She knows how to fill a stat line as she finished her season with 175 kills, 118 digs, 39 blocks, and 39 service aces. Those are balanced numbers that suggest she can play somewhere at the college level.
OH, Kristen Kaufman, 5’9”, Olathe North – Kaufman has a bright future ahead of her. The Olathe North Eagle finished her junior season with 168 kills in a shortened 2020 season for the Eagles. Kaufman is a solid passer as well as finished 2020 with 146 digs.
OH, Gracen Mealman Gracen Mealman 5'9" | OH Gardner Edgerton | 2022 State KS , 5’9”, Gardner-Edgerton – Mealman has a solid season for the Trailblazers in 2020. She finished her junior season with a total of 110 kills. Mealman will look to improve on her hitting accuracy during her senior season.
