Continue ReadingThis tournament ended up being a combination between the venue and staff for the Junior’s Winter Classic that was originally supposed to be held in January and the date and AAU standing of the AAU Rockin’ Rockford Grand Prix. I, personally, love seeing these organizations work together to create opportunities to play. So, even though it was just a couple weeks from spring, we took on the Winter Classic in Milwaukee as the first public event at the Wisconsin Center. With 14 divisions and competition everywhere you look, it wasn’t hard to find talented liberos heating up with the weather!
#21 Allyson Eckel – 2023 – 5’7 – Bradford – Motion 17 BLU
Eckel brings a real scrappy style of play, and teams clearly avoid going in her direction. She is solid on serve-receive and a very sound wing defender. Eckel isn’t flashy but very dependable and takes care of the little things, and her teammates can trust she will be there.
#25 Amelia Derrig – 2024 – Kettle Moraine – Motion 15 GRN
Derrig makes her presence known immediately on serve-receive. She has a balanced stance and takes a fast first step. Derrig has super speed and the ability to read with a solid platform and a competitive mindset.
#4 Ava Lewis – IMPACT 16U ELEANOR
In pool D, this Impact team won in a commanding fashion. Lewis helped Impact to roll through their pool play on Saturday. She has a wicked lefty float serve and moves really well on defense. Look for her bringing a lot of energy to her team and seamlessly stepping in to take the 2nd out-of-system contact passes.
#7 Emme Patton – 2021 – 5’1 – Morton – ESVBC Elite 18U Ninjas
Patton helps add to the team energy and chemistry with a strong cross court serve that takes teams out of system. She demonstrates a solid volleyball IQ combined with focus that helps create the big plays.
#24 Ryleigh Zeller Ryleigh Zeller 5'5" | DS/L Wisconsin Lutheran | 2023 State WI – 2023 – 5’6 – Wisconsin Lutheran – Motion 16 BLU
Zeller is a savvy player with swagger. She does a great job of positioning herself off the blockers’ shoulders while still reading the hitters, as well as the play on both sides of the net. Zeller demonstrates boundless determination, solid passing angles, and dynamic leadership. Her team feeds off her confidence, and it fuels them.
#12 Team Momentum 15 Org
This libero is feisty and sets a solid first contact for Team Momentum. #12 found her way to each play with relentless pursuit and scrappy play. Her strong serve created issues for many passers and I hope she draws the attention of a few colleges for her style of play.
*I could not find a roster for this team, so if anyone has information on this player, please email Breit at spikeitdown@hotmail.com – we’d love to give her credit!
