The Sentinels remain undefeated in the season, having won all of their first eight matches, including seven against in-district opponents.
Here are the players who stood out for them this week:
Emma West – Opposite – 2021
The six-foot senior opposite was the Sentinels’ top scorer this week having produced 12 points against Franklin Pierce and 16 against Clover Park. West is following up on a strong 2019 performance and has been extremely prolific for Steilacoom at the net, being the team’s second-best attacker (68 kills) and blocker (12 points). She has committed to play for Pierce College at the collegiate level.
Danielle Faamausili – Setter – 2022
The 5’9” setter has been a model of consistency during the entire time she’s been with Steilacoom and it has been no different this season or even this week alone. Faamausili registered 31 assists against Franklin Pierce and repeated that number against Clover Park, adding to her total of 264 (an a match average of 9.8, on pair with the last two seasons). Faamausili has also contributed in other areas of the game, registering six kills, seven aces and 15 digs between the two matches.
Pomai Balderson – Outside Hitter – 2021
The 5’10” outside hitter has provided Steilacoom with a great deal of consistency this season, especially at the net, and that has also been the case this week. Balderson has maintained a reliable offensive production registering 10 kills against Franklin Pierce and 12 more against Clover Park. She leads the team in that department this season with 90 kills so far. She also helped on defense in both matches, producing six digs in the first meeting and five in the second.
Taylor Albert – Libero – 2022
After a decent performance in 2019, the 5’6” libero has found her best game again in 2020 and looks a lot more like the player who had 468 digs and 55 aces and left a great impression in her first year of high school volleyball. Her numbers are not right up there yet at 126 digs and 20 digs but odds are she’d get to that same level if this was a normal season. Albert has performed really well in this week’s matches as she tallied 11 digs and one ace against Franklin Pierce and improved to 21 digs and seven against Clover Park.
