Continue ReadingThe high school volleyball season continues at full pace in the state of Washington. After several months of wait and uncertainty, it has been great to see these student-athletes being able to get on the court again and doing what they love.
It is, however, a shortened season and in a little over three weeks it will have come to an end already. Knowing that, we certainly don’t want to waste any time and will continue with our weekly articles highlights the players who have been doing a great job in each of the state’s six divisions.
Today it’s time we address the 1A and 1B divisions.
1A
Noelle Alberda – Middle-Blocker – King’s – 2021
Noelle Alberda was an offensive star for King’s this season. The 5’11” middle-blocker had a central role in the Knights’ playing system and helped them winning nine of their first ten matches in the division. Alberda’s offense was always on point as the least she produced in a game were ten kills and that was one of just two occasions in which her total was below 16 in that department. She ended the season with a team-high 150 kills and an impressive efficiency rate of 43.6%. Her best performance in the season was arguably a 22-kill, two-block night she had in a 3-1 victory against South Whidbey.
Jordyn True – Middle-Blocker – Colville – 2023
Jordyn True is another middle-blocker to stand out in the division, but for different reasons. While Alberda’s offense is what secured her spot in the list, True is here for her blocking abilities. The 6’1” sophomore made significant strides from her freshman campaign with Colville and produced a good average of 1.4 blocks per set. The second-year middle-blocker generated a total of 25 blocking points for the Indians in only 18 sets and seems to be positioned for further growth in the two years of high school volleyball she still got ahead of her.
Natalie Piasecki – Libero – Charles Wright – 2024
The Piasecki family has been contributing to Charles Wright’s program for three years now with the play of setter Kate and it seems the tradition will continue with freshman libero Natalie. The 5’8” prospect came in as a libero and had a strong showing in her first year with the Tarriers, leading the team in both digs (188) and passes (67). She was especially solid in the two matches against Bellevue Christian, in which she combined for 61 digs.
1B
Ashlyyn Archer – Middle-Blocker – St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse – 2022
Ashlyyn Archer has been in great form for St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse this season. The 6’3” prospect is contributing all across the board and has helped the team secure a positive 7-3 win record in a strong district. Archer led her team in the five statistical categories she possibly could after she registered 128 kills, 36 aces, 26 blocks, 82 digs and 126 passes. The highlight of her season was probably the 18-kill, three-ace, two-block, 17-dig, 14-pass performance in a 3-1 triumph against Colton.
Rylee Vining – Setter – Colton – 2021
Rylee Vining was the brains behind a Colton team that won eight of their 11 matches in the division. The 5’3” setter was certainly somewhat limited on what she could do because of her height, but she was excellent in several areas of the game and was a key contributor for the Wildcats. Vining had a solid average of 7.5 assists per set, ending the season with 277 helpers. She was also the team’s top server, tallying as many as 37 aces, and also added 54 digs to her name.
Saige Smith – Outside Hitter – Touchet – 2022
Touchet had a handful of elite defensive players in the team’s perfect 10-0 campaign and Saige Smith was among them. The 5’6” outside hitter also had her duties at the net, and she fulfilled them with the team’s third-best mark in kills (47), but it was at the backcourt that her game really stood out. Smith was the Indians’ second-best defender with 176 digs and occupied the same spot in the passing rankings with 172. She was also Touchet’s most effective server with a team-high 41 aces.
