The freshman from Crestview is one of the better two-way athletes in this class as a pin attacker and setter. She averaged nearly three kills per set while hitting at an impressive .347 clip. She also dished out over four assists per set on the season. She has good volleyball I.Q. for her age as she sees the floor well and can hit shots around the floor well. As she increases her competitive experience, strength, and foot speed, every aspect of her game should benefit.
Caroline Lanicek – 6’0 | MH | Black Swamp 16-1
Lanicek was a huge factor for undefeated and DIV state champion Calvert as she had a phenomenal freshman campaign. She averaged 2.5 kills per set while hitting at a terrific .361 efficiency. She led this team defensively at the net with 2.6 blocks per match. She is a physical athlete in the middle as she elevates well and can swing with good power. Additionally, as it is unconventional for a left-handed attacker to play the role of middle hitter, Lanicek is quite effective and showed a great relationship with her setter in developing her point scoring opportunities.
Alec Rothe – 6’2 | RS/MH | Elite 15 Black
Rothe has all the tools to become an elite attacker and blocker by the time she finishes her prep career. She elevates extremely well and plays above the net with ease when on time and balance in her approach work. She has an aggressive arm and if she can increase her left-arm lead in the air she will add even more elevation and consistency in her balance when hitting. She has good range defensively given her length and her quickness allows her to get to hitters well in both directions. Keep an eye on her.
Gretchen Sigman – 5’10 | RS | TDV 15 Elite
This left-handed right side attacker did a lot for her Springfield team during her freshman season. She led the team in kills per set at 3.2 in seeing the most attempts offensively. She also was among team leaders in service aces and in blocks per match at 2.4. She plays with a veteran-like style as she moves well and shows great confidence and aggressiveness with her arm when swinging. She can score overhead as well as through varied attack points around the setter. A more purposeful double-arm lift in her approach work will get her higher in the air that should create more point scoring. She was an honorable mention all-district honoree.
