The champions have all been deservedly recognized, so now we’ll take some time to highlight the most intriguing prospects that stood out during the season with consistent and efficient play for their high schools.
We start with the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 1A Division, which saw Neches secure its third-straight State Championship title. Today, we’ll look into three Class of 2021 players who ended their high school career on a high.
Kacie Kimbrough – Middle-Blocker/Outside Hitter – Neches
Kacie Kimbrough was an absolute standout for Neches as the versatile middle-blocker was awarded as the All-State Player of the Year by the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA). Versatility, by the way, is one word that, when paired with complete, describes the 5’10” prospect’s game very well. Kimbrough is one of those players who can do it all on a volleyball court due to her great technique and natural tendency to be at the center of everything her team does. That was made clear by her season stats of 409 kills, 265 digs, 63 blocks and 84 aces and, in a smaller sample, by her performance at the State Championship final, where she registered 15 kills, 19, digs, two blocks and three aces. Texas volleyball fans will be able to follow the next steps of her career as Kimbrough will play college volleyball for the University of Texas at Tyler.
Raegan Hill – Outside Hitter – Neches
Lefties are typically among the craftiest offensive players in the game and Raegan Hill is no exception to the rule. Neches’ 5’8” outside hitter seems capable to find unlikely angles every time a set comes her way and, even though she doesn’t have a jaw-dropping amount of power on her game, her reading of the opponents’ block makes it very difficult to stop her at the net. On top of that, she barely makes any mistakes, always a desirable feature for someone who plays a crucial role on their teams. After registering eight kills and three blocks at the State Championship final, Hill found her way to both the All-Tournament team and the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) All-State first team.
Lexi Rogers – Middle-Blocker – Neches
Lexi Rogers showed what she’s about in the most clutch moment of the season, being awarded as the State Championship Match MVP after a performance of 15 digs, ten digs and three blocks for Neches. The 5’10” middle-blocker is as strong as it gets at the net, offering a rare combination of speed, power and reliability on offense and a solid and mistake-free blocking game for the Lady Tigers. Rogers was part of the All-Tournament team and also made it to the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) All-State first team in her last season a Neches uniform.
