The champions have all been deservedly recognized, so now we’ll take some time to highlight the most intriguing prospects that stood out during the season with consistent and efficient play for their high schools.
We start with the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 1A Division, which saw Neches secure its third-straight State Championship title. It’s time we address the class of 2023, one that has some of the best players in the district already.
Brooklyn Jaeger Brooklyn Jaeger 5'9" | OH Fayetteville | 2023 State TX – Outside Hitter – Fayetteville
Brooklyn Jaeger Brooklyn Jaeger 5'9" | OH Fayetteville | 2023 State TX is a key element in Fayetteville’s recent success in the division. The 5’8” outside hitter is involved in basically everything the Lady Lions do on a volleyball court and last season she led her team in kills (564, more than all of her teammates combined), blocks (33), digs (432) and passes (470), besides ranking second in aces (76). Jaeger combines good athleticism, which makes of her a great jumper, with well-refined technique and that sum of skills took her to the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) All-State first team. She ranks 57th at our class of 2023 ranking.
Jolie Frosch – Setter – D’Hanis
Jolie Frosch’s 837 assists in 2020 were certainly impressive, but they don’t tell the entire story of how good of a setter she was for D’Hanis. Being reliable and capable of turning a bad pass into a good set is one of the most important assets for a setter at this level and Frosch checks both those boxes and some more. At 5’7”, she can also be effective at the net, as she showed with 69 kills and 17 blocks last season. She’s also a force from the service line, having registered 74 aces for the Cowboys in their latest campaign.
Emma Jones – Outside Hitter – Blum
Emma Jones had a solid second season with Blum in 2020, taking the team all the way to the State Championship final. At 5’10”, the outside hitter used her size really well at the net to register the team’s second-best mark of 172 kills, but also owns an impressive all-around game that resulted in good production in several other areas, including 31 aces, 11 blocks, 162 digs and 121 passes. She was selected for the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) All-State first team and still has a couple more years of high school volleyball to improve.
