Being a high school setter requires a degree of unselfishness. Setters have to distribute the ball to teammates and focus on extending plays rather than ending them.

Here is a look at five players at Class 6A from the Class of 2022 who specialize in distributing the ball to their hard-hitting teammates.

Brenna Schwada, 5’6”, Lawrence– Schwada distributes the ball well to her teammates at Lawrence High School. She finished her junior season with 371 assists. Schwada also had 197 digs and passes the ball well.

Mary Kate Foster, 5’5”, Dodge City  – Foster had a solid junior season setting the ball for the Dodge City Demons. She amassed 284 assists in 2020. Foster will be a key cog in the 2021 Dodge City squad.

Alex Cummins,  5’6”, Olathe North – Olathe North had a down season in 2020, but Cummins will look to make the Eagles more competitive in 2021. She finished the 2020 season with 280 assists to rank among the top setters in Class 6A.

Renee Liou, 5’9”, Blue Valley Northwest – Liou sets for the Blue Valley Northwest Huskies. She has a nice touch and communicates well. Liou finished with 237 assists in her junior season.
