Continue ReadingAs we enter into the first month of the spring season, athletes of the class of 2022 have not failed to shine the light onto their talents that they bring out on the court. Most athletes are competing for both their club teams and their high school teams as the IHSA has granted a one-time exception for those athletes to compete both. These athletes listed are those who have managed to shine in the spotlight and continue to prove their talents on the court.
Lily Bechina Lily Bechina 5'11" | S Jones College Prep | 2022 State IL – (HS-Jones/Club- Chicago Elite)
The 5’11”, setter, brings herself to the spotlight as her height and her ability to softly set the ball make her a skilled player. Her athletic ability on the court is what brings her to the spotlight, with her swift movement across the floor, but her soft yet effective sets of the ball for setting up a kill or maintaining the movement of the ball across the floor. Her sets are consistent and align perfectly in the sight of her hitters, setting up the opportunity for a point. Bechina is one to watch throughout her club season and her high school season as she is expected to bring her talents to all courts she steps foot on this season.
Kiya Levy Kiya Levy 6'0" | MB St. Ignatius College Prep | 2022 State IL – (HS-St. Ignatius/Club-Chicago Elite)
Levy is going to definitely be one to watch this spring season as her athletic ability brings out the best that she can be. Standing at 6’0”, the middle hitter has a very powerful and consistent arm when it comes to attacking the ball. Levy is able to move across the court smoothly and is very aggressive when it comes to striking the ball. Levy served as an important asset to her club season, as she assisted the team with several wins and continues to make a name for herself. Levy saw action with St. Ignatius this past week against Providence Catholic, managing to put 2 blocks and 1 kill, assisting the team with the win over Providence Catholic. Levy is one to keep on your radar as the spring season continues for her high school season and her summer club season starts to unfold starting in early April.
Saniya Spalding– (HS-Merriville High School/Club-Chicago Elite)
Standing at 5’11” and having an approach jump of 9’8” and block jump of 9’0”, Spalding is definitely one to watch this approaching summer club season. Spalding has a very powerful right hand and is definitely going to be an athlete that you want to keep up with as she brings some serious power to the attacks that she has on the opposing team. Spalding is a very important asset to both her club and high school teams as she assists with wins over their most competitive components. As Spalding’s high school season has come to a close, she is going to be one to keep a eye on as the summer club season slowly approaches.
Riley Moreno Riley Moreno 6'1" | MB St. Charles North | 2022 IL – (HS-St.Charles High School/Club- Club Fusion Volleyball)
Moreno has impressive stats, having an approach jump of 10’0” and a block jump of 9’9” while standing at 6’0”. Last season Moreno was seen in 46 sets, contributing with 22 kills, 43 blocks and 22 solo blocks. Moreno shows impressive athleticism and is able to move across the floor in one smooth movement. Her strike is very powerful and consistent upon her attack and is definitely something that will continue to allow her to gain spotlight. Moreno saw action in the USAV Girls Winter Volleyball Championship this past January and saw action at Nike MEQ the weekend of March 19th. Moreno is going to be a developing athlete to continue to watch this spring and throughout the club summer season.
Amanda Holsen Amanda Holsen 5'11" | OH Stevenson | 2022 State #180 Nation IL – (HS- Stevenson High School/Club-Sky High Volleyball Club)
Holsen is a very fluent player when it comes to defending the ball. Holsen is an aggressive and competitive athlete and doesn’t fail to show her athleticism on the court. With the start of the high school season, Henson has only been seen in 2 played sets with 9 kills. Holsen has a current overall high school career of 101 sets played, with 469 kills, 55 blocks, 265 digs and 56 aces. Holsen is quick on her feet and is not afraid to dive into the ball when needed. Holsen is going to be an athlete to keep in the spotlight as she continues to show her talents on the court. Holsen was considered a leader for returns during the 2020 season and continues to be unstoppable at the net.
