The Spring season is anything but business as usual but the players, coaches and fans are happy to be back on the hardwood. The expected top performers are continuing to be top performers with several future stars ready to take the helm. Here are some of the top performances for week 2.
Frank Cox won beat Bayside in a sweep behind solid performances by Grace Holroyd’s 11 kills and Michelle Humphrey adding in 7 for the Falcons. They also topped First Colonial 3-1 with top performances from Alyssa Humphrey leading with 9 kills and Sophie Landis dug 23 balls.
Peninsula Catholic continued their dominant early season success with sweeps of Greenbrier Christian and Hampton Roads. Senior Madison Clark Madison Clark 6'1" | RS Peninsula Catholic | 2021 State VA continued her dominance on her way to Hampton University next year. Clark has 24 kills on the week, 11 aces, and 10 digs. Setter Alaina Stallings had 47 assists, 14 aces, and 9 digs. AVCA Phenom nominee Audrey Muth Audrey Muth 6'1" | MB Peninsula Catholic | 2022 State VA added 7 kills, 6 blocks and 6 digs against Hampton Roads while Allison Master added 9 kills and 4 blocks for the Lady Knights.
Poquoson had a busy week with three matches and took all three of them with sweeps over Windsor and Tabb and a 3-1 victory over York. Senior Hitter Chloe Dupuis Chloe Dupuis 6'1" | OH Poquoson | 2021 State VA led the Lady Islanders offensively . The ETSU bound captain had 48 kills on the week. Sophomore Setter Alexis “Lexi” Sava dished 75 assists. Samantha Topping added 18 assists and one ace against Tabb. Samantha Chapman had a kill and four blocks against Windsor. Madison Dykstra finished with 5 kills, 5 digs, 4 aces and 2 blocks against York.
Hampton swept Phoebus behind strong offensive performances by Daryn Lassiter with 10 kills and Nathalie Bertrand with eight.
Kecoughtan beat Bethel after a slow start 3-1 with Kristen Revere powering 8 kills, Alexis DeSue dishing 22 assists and Hillary Crox leading the defense with 17 digs for the Warriors.
Grafton was dominant in two sweeps in week two over Jamestown and Smithfield. Senior Outside Hitter Lily Scheeren with 15 kills, 20 digs and 4 aces. Freshman Alexis Keeter (pictured left) continues her exceptional season with 15 kills and 24 digs. Setter Alondra Miranda- Pagan dished 49 assists and 18 digs.
Hickory swept a pair of matches over Great Bridge and Indian River. Senior Sydney Love Sydney Love 6'1" | OH Hickory | 2021 State VA added 26 kills and 19 digs. Ryann Love, Rayne Manning and Milly Mach combined for 31 kills and 7 blocks against Great Bridge. Ryann added 8 kills over Indian River. The Hawks combined for 12 blocks and 43 digs against Indian River in a dominant defensive performance. Great Bridge swept Deep Creek behind Georgia Alexander’s 12 digs and 4 aces and Gracie Slovensky’s 7 kills.
The New Kent Trojans swept York behind Setter and AVCA Phenom nominee Haley Baker Haley Baker 5'7" | S New Kent | 2022 State VA ’s 28 assists, 9 digs, and 4 kills. Hitters Jaiden McCoy added 10 kills and Clara Foster added 8 digs, 6 aces and 2 kills.
Grassfield split their two matches, sweeping Indian River and dropping in four sets to Western Branch. Abigail Linsky added 6 kills and 2 blocks and Mary Kate Stasevich added 7 kills. Defenders Kylie Morin and Audrey Paynter combined for 23 digs for Indian River. Western Branch upset Grassfield behind strong performances Jas Robinson’s 15 kills and 12 from Kayleigh Eason. Alexis Rogers added 11 kills and 5 aces. Settre Kenzie Taylor had 31 assists and 5 aces. Western Branch also took down Oscar Smith in 4 sets with Grace Luallin’s 14 assists and Cathyrn Kelly’s 8 kills.
