Continue ReadingThe most important tournament of the year for the class of 2021 players is just in front of us as the 2021 USAV Girls 18s Junior National Championship is set to happen from April 23-25 in Columbus, Ohio, and as many as 280 teams from the entire country are expected to compete in the five divisions.
Texas will, of course, be represented in the event and we will take the time between now and the start of the tournament in Ohio to present the teams that will carry the Lone Star State flag in Ohio, analyzing their campaigns in the club season so far and highlighting their most important players.
In our final preview of the 18 Patriot Division, here’s all the info we have on TAV Houston 18 Blue:
Based out of the TAV Houston Volleyball Club, which is located just north of the city, TAV Houston 18 Blue has had a balanced season so far with 17 wins and just as many losses. The team led by head coach Daniel Stedman finished in the top-10 of the AVC’s National Qualifier back in March.
Here are their key players:
Charlotte Foster – Middle-Blocker – HS: Providence Classical – 2021
Charlotte Foster brings some important net presence for TAV Houston 18 Blue with her six-foot frame and her great blocking skills. Foster moves well at the net, works really well on assisted blocks and takes up a lot of space from hitters. Her offense is very solid too and there’s also the added bonus that she can play as an opposite if needed as well.
Elise Marek – Outside Hitter – HS: Klein Collins – 2022
Despite being one year younger than her teammates, Elise Marek is an integral part of TAV Houston 18 Blue’s playing system. The 5’9” outside hitter is a very dynamic player and manages to impact the game on both offense and defense. A capable passer and defender, Marek excels at the net with a very intelligent and explosive game from either her preferred left side or from the right.
Koralyn Owens – Setter – HS: College Park – 2021
Koralyn Owens is the one tasked with running TAV Houston 18 Blue’s offense and she does a great job in that role. The 5’9” setter not only has good size for the position but has also great hands and a very clean touch on the ball. Owens loves to jump set and speed sets up but also knows when she needs to play more conservatively. She’s also a very good beach volleyball player.
