Continue ReadingWe have written about all athletes on our ranking list at least once from the 2023 class and up. We are going back and giving more updates on each of the athletes on our list from the past high school season and current club season. This next installment of our series on the 2023 class has a little of everything. I tried to balance it out across the entire state. So without further ado, here are the updates of a few of the standouts from the 2023 class.
Brooke Bentke Brooke Bentke 6'2" | OH Brenham | 2023 State #112 Nation TX [2023] 6-2 Outside (HS: Brenham/Club: Woodlands Revolution/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Brooke is currently ranked as the 20th best prospect in the State of Texas according to our Prep Dig Rankings in the class of 2023. We have profiled her a couple of times already and will likely write a few more articles as she is just tearing it up on the court since we introduced her last summer. In the first article we wrote the following, “She is a lengthy six rotation pin hitter who is the “go-to” scorer for her talented Woodlands Revolution club squad. She can light it up with the best of them as she scores at will in a variety of ways. Most players at this age, need almost a perfect set to score. Not Brooke. When the set is inside or off, she can still adjust her approach accordingly and still have the timing to hit with power. She can find the hole in the block, she can swing around it and go line, and she has so much power that she can tool the block at will. Standing at six foot two, she is a towering presence at the net against her opponents. For most tall blockers, they don’t load up much to jump and block. My favorite thing about Brooke is how she still bends her knees and loads up so much to block. This tells me that she has a passion for the game that not many have. Brooke has the potential to move up our rankings very rapidly if she stays on her course. We cannot wait to see how she does in her high school varsity season.” She has been nothing short of spectacular since she burst onto the scene for Brenham. She was one of the main reasons they went 19-6 overall and 10-4 in district. The Cubbettes also had a deep run into the UIL State Playoffs due to her play. In only two years on varsity she has amassed a whopping 715 kills, hit an impressive .333 percentage, had 66 blocks, 89 aces, and 621 digs. This young lady will obliterate the record books by the time she is done with her high school career. We will be updating on her Woodlands Revolution club season soon. College coaches already have her on their radar and I’m sure that list is growing for her as they watch what she can do. The scary part for her opponents is that she is only going to get better with more experience. Watch closely as she shoots up our rankings soon.
Rylee Busse Rylee Busse 5'10" | OH Cornerstone Christian | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-10 Outside (HS: Cornerstone Christian/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Riley is currently ranked as the 68th top prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. Miss Busse was profiled us last summer and we said the following, “She plays for a great club program in her Alamo club out of San Antonio. She is a six rotation outside hitter who can dig in the back row and hit out of both sides of the court. She has a great motor and transitions out of the play well eager to get the set. She is quick to her touch point and then drives hard to the ball. She opens up her body very well to the ball in order to hit with maximum torque. Then she explodes on the ball with great power for her size. She also has the ability to go line and tool when she needs to in order to score. She plays for a great private school program out of north San Antonio at Cornerstone Christian. We can’t wait to see how much she progresses in the sport as she has a high ceiling to improve.” We couldn’t be more proud of her as she has been extremely productive at Cornerstone amassing 249 kills, .230 hitting percentage, 23 aces, and 202 digs. She is a big reason they went 22-3 overall. This young lady has power for days and cocks back that arm during her approach to unload on the ball. She is able to play on both pins and solidifies a great block against opponents. We are excited to cover her for the future.
Emma Patmon Emma Patmon 5'8" | OH Cedar Ridge | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-8 Outside (HS: Cedar Ridge/Club: Austin Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Emma is currently ranked as the 30th best prospect in the State of Texas in the 2023 class according to Prep Dig. We have profiled Emma a couple of times since we first introduced her to the rankings last summer. In the first article we stated, “She has burst on the scene but we think she has a bright future ahead of her. Players like Emma are why I love to coach the game. She plays the way it was meant to be played. Emma has more heart and determination than a lot of players I have seen. She is a smaller player in size but don’t let that fool you, because this young lady can FLY on the court. And when she is in the air you will be wowed by how much power she possesses. Emma will slide up our rankings soon as she has promised me that she is going to work hard on her vertical this coming year. Her stats speak for themselves and she has a very high ceiling as she is under the direction of a great club director in Jenny Luke at her Austin Skyline program. She can do it all. She plays exceptional defense in he back row and covers so much ground due to her quick feet. I absolutely love her motor and can’t wait to watch her high school season and see how far she moves up our rankings. Keep your eye on this young lady as she will be a great find for a college program in the next few years.” Since then she has been on a mission. We have witnessed her workouts and it is safe to say she is not done progressing yet. She is one of the hardest workers I have seen in a while who has laser focus on being the best she can be. She has that “Mamba Mentality” and whichever school gets lucky enough to have her will enjoy that infectious work ethic she has. Her hard work has translated into a very productive high school season in which she helped Cedar Ridge go 19-6 overall and 9-3 in district. She helped them go deep into the UIL State Playoffs and will be ready to lead them into a similar fight next season. Meanwhile she and her awesome 16’s team at Austin Skyline are running opponents off of the court with authority. We will be writing an article on them soon so stay tuned for that one soon.
