Twenty-four players from Class 2A had at least 300 or more assists during the 2020 high school season.

Here is a look at five of those assist leaders. All five are in the class of 2022 and are entering their senior high school seasons. Two of them will be looking to guide their teams to back-to-back state titles.

Avery Behrends, 5’5”, Hanover– Behrends unofficially led all of Class 1A players in assists with 755 assists. She is also an accomplished basketball player. Behrends added 267 digs to her junior season stat line. Hanover won the Class 1A-DII State Championship in 2020. She could be a setter or defensive specialist for a college team.

Riley Thompson, 5’5”, Central Plains – The Oilers were the Class 1A-DI 2020 State Champions and got there partly behind the setting of Thompson. The junior setter racked up a total of 681 assists for the champs. She has a quick release well and communicates well with her hitters. Thompson also finished 241 digs in her junior season.
