It is, however, a shortened season and in a little over three weeks it will have come to an end already. Knowing that, we certainly don’t want to waste any time and will continue with our weekly articles highlights the players who have been doing a great job in each of the state’s six divisions.
Today it’s time we address the 1A and 1B divisions.
1A
Zoe Smith – Setter – Bear Creek – 2022
Zoe Smith did a great job in coordinating Bear Creek’s offense in a season in which the Grizzlies had only three defeats in 12 matches. The 5’6” setter was at the top of her form all season, dishing out as many as 279 assists to an average of seven per set. Smith has also been a prolific defender, registering the team’s third-best mark of 84 in the season, and a lethal server, having scored from the service line as many as 40 times.
Bridget Young – Middle-Blocker – King’s Way Christian – 2022
Bridget Young didn’t have a lot of time to show her game as King’s Way Christian’s 10 matches in the season all happened within four weeks, but she made sure she was at her peak in that time. The 5’10” middle-blocker was the Knight’s fourth-best scorer with 68 kills but was the team’s most efficient offensive player with a kill percentage of 43.9% and a hitting efficiency of .335. She also contributed with 18 blocks.
Jordayn Murphy – Outside Hitter – La Center – 2021
Jordayn Murphy played an instrumental role for La Center as she paired up really well with star outside hitter Tiffany Chandler Tiffany Chandler 5'10" | OH La Center | 2021 State WA . While Chandler was a scoring machine for the Wildcats, Murphy led the team’s serve-receiving efforts with the team’s second-best mark of 187 passes. She was also very productive in several other areas of the game as she led the team in aces with 23 and was the second-best in kills (82) and digs (129).
1B
Ella-Leigh Rockwell – Outside Hitter – Crosspoint – 2023
In her third season of high school volleyball, Ella-Leigh Rockwell continues to be a stud for Crosspoint. The diminutive 5’5” outside hitter remains as one of the most technically gifted players in the division and has once again used her skills to help the Warriors succeed with an undefeated 8-0 win record. Such a strong performance wouldn’t be possible without Rockwell’s contributions as she was the team’s go-to scoring option with 82 kills and, most impressively, a 55.3% kill percentage, besides a team-high 29 aces and 153 passes.
Reese Rickabough – Setter – Republic – 2021
Resse Rickabough’s final season of high school volleyball was arguably her best one as the setter managed to show some impressive improvement in some important areas of her game. The 5’6” Rickabough did a tremendous job in coordinating Republic’s offense with a career-high 150 assists and an average of five per set, just about doubling her numbers in the past two seasons. Her blocking game was also surprisingly strong as she got as many as 20 stuffs at the net. She also registered more than one ace per set, to a total of 33.
Pervie Reed – Libero – Three Rivers Christian – 2022
Pervie Reed lived up to her reputation as one of the best liberos in the division with another solid season for Three Rivers Christian. The 5’2” defender was as solid as usual and posted some impressive numbers while leading the Eagles’ backcourt efforts. Reed led her team in digs and passes with 178 and 193 respectively and also produced 21 aces.
