Tenafly stuns Demarest
Unranked Tenafly dominated Demarest with a commanding 25-13, 25-22 victory. Demarest was in position to take over as the top team in NJ if they were able to win this past weekend. Tenafly had either ideas. The teams played to a three-set thriller in their first meeting. Zuzanna Buchnajzer led the way will 11 kills and six digs. She has been having a breakout season and she played her A-game doing it all for Tenafly.
Meanwhile, Meghan Koehler was the catalyst for this victory racking up 19 assists. Her setting was precise and accurate creating scoring chance after scoring chance. Tenafly played motivated seeking revenge from their earlier defeat.
Demarest was led by Olivia Cammallari who had 13 assists in defeat.
Cherokee takes down Southern in a 3-set Thriller
In potentially the match of the weekend, Cherokee took down #4 Southern in a match where it could have gone either way. Cherokee came out on top 25-21, 20-25, 25-22. Gabrielle Waldman did it all for Cherokee finishing with 10 kills and 9 digs. Katie Montenero was special with 23 assists, utilizing everyone on the court to ensure team balance offensively. It was an all-hands on deck approach where they saw significant contributions from everyone.
This game showcased a heavyweight bout, seeing teams exchange blows and going on runs against one another. For Southern, Stephanie Soares finished with 29 assists trying to give Southern an opportunity to rally from a one-set deficit. Rachael Pharo had 13 kills and 10 digs as well to lead Southern.
This weekend solidified that this unprecedented season is unlike any other and anyone can be beaten on any given day.
