Last weekend we took a close look at the Top 10 players, as well as some of the top Stock Risers in the newest rankings.
Today, we look at some of the news additions to the 2023 rankings. These players have made sure that their play in the last year couldn’t be ignored.
Kennedy Louisell Kennedy Louisell 6'0" | OH Forest Hills Northern | 2023 State #140 Nation MI , OH Forest Hills Northern/FaR Out
Nobody has made a bigger jump in the rankings than Louisell. She went from being unranked all the way up to No. 20. The 5’11” outside has great technique and is able to instinctively make the necessary plays. She is growing in confidence, and that is a big reason for her rankings jump. Louisell should continue to rise as she’s playing with a real chip on her shoulder.
Taylor Stephens Taylor Stephens 5'11" | OH Okemos | 2023 State MI , OH Okemos/FaR Out
Okemos wasn’t even sure if it would have a prep season throughout stages of the fall, but Stephens got her chance to play and ultimately shined. She showed a lot of improved finishing ability while adding to her defensive game. Stephens moves very well on the floor and can dial up the explosion on her attacks when called upon. Stephens debuts in our rankings at No. 38.
Meredith Simmons Meredith Simmons 5'10" | OH Rockford | 2023 State MI , MB/OH Rockford/FaR Out
Simmons joins the rankings at No. 40 after having a really solid prep season for the Rams. She was one of the leading hitters on a deep crew of Rockford hitters. Simmons also displayed the ability to be a real force at the net defensively, while showcasing a lot of promise in the back row as well. Simmons is gaining in confidence and should have a lot of belief in herself after this last year. That should lead to a lot of growth throughout 2021.
Madi Derby Madi Derby 5'5" | DS/L Allendale | 2023 State MI , L/DS Allendale/FaR Out
Derby joins the rankings at No. 43 and is a real instinctive player in the back row. Derby can see plays happening before they happen, which allows her to get into great position to succeed. She also has a tenacity about her to compete at a high level. If she isn’t able to make a play, she is quick to dust herself off and return to the floor even more determined on the next point.
Raegan Lantz Raegan Lantz 6'1" | OH West Ottawa | 2023 State MI , MB/OH West Ottawa/MVA
Lantz debuts in the rankings at No. 45. She can play in the middle or on the outside at the net. Lantz has good length at 6’1” and a reach of 7’10”. Lantz plays with a lot of energy and enthusiasm on the floor and it has translated to a lot of success in the last year. She is improving on her court vision and footwork, but has a very high ceiling for how far she can get.
