However, there are still plenty of 2022 prospects that have been flying under the radar and making a push for more recognition.
Here’s five players that aren’t in our numbered rankings that have made a big splash in the last year.
Alia Mastromatteo Alia Mastromatteo 5'9" | S Portage Northern | 2022 State MI , S Portage Northern/Dead Frog
Mastromattaeo is playing up in age with Dead Frog 18 black and she is settling in nicely this club season. The team in itself has been performing well, with two tournament titles to their credit and five top-5 finishes. Mastromattaeo is a mouthful to say and a handful on the court. She does a great job of staying laser-focused on her role and seeing the ball into her sets. She makes some difficult sets look effortless as she has a lot of athleticism for the position.
Hailee Mancogna, MB Goodrich/Unified
Mancogna is a talent flying under the radar. The 6-foot middle is able to play the outside as well, but has really looked strong for Unified 17-1 during the club season. She has good chemistry with her setters, which has allowed her to terminate at a high rate with some highlight-reel finishes. Her footwork is improving and making her more impactful defensively. Mancogna looks like someone with still a lot of upside.
Brianna Stawski Brianna Stawski 6'2" | MB Reeths-Puffer | 2022 MI , MB Reeths-Puffer/Inside Out
Stawski plays up in age as well for Inside Out 18 Mizuno Gray. At 6’2”, the athletic and long middle is already committed to Grand Valley State University, and for good reason. She’s got a great swing and has her timing down offensively and defensively. She’s been able to get her hands on a lot of balls to help her defense. As she continues to finish at a high rate, her growing confidence is only going to make her a stronger force within the state.
Lauren Richmond Lauren Richmond 5'8" | S Traverse City Central | 2022 MI , S/DS Traverse City Central/NorthShore
Richmond is another 2022 setter playing up in age level during the club season. She’s got the fundamental skills at the setter position, but also has great defensive instincts. Richmond moves around the court well as sees the play, I’d just like to see a little more command out of her as the on-court leader. I think that will come in the next year. She’s got the talent, now she just needs to add that little touch of swagger on the floor.
Alyssa Leroy Alyssa Leroy 5'6" | DS/L Flushing | 2022 MI , L/DS Flushing/Arsenal
LeRoy is a scrappy defender for Arsenal u17 Elite. She’s got all you can ask for in a defender, but also has the overall athleticism to takes swings at the net as well. In serve receive, LeRoy is very dialed in and focused. She makes a great pass to her setter. As the points progress, LeRoy is all over the floor. You won’t find her flat-footed often, but she also isn’t trying to overstep her role. She’s a great piece to have on the floor and is in line for a big senior year.
