Losing a tough three-set semifinal match to eventual champion Mad Frog, this squad bounced back for a solid two-game sweep of a very good Dynasty squad to claim third place. This team has had a terrific club season that includes winning Bluegrass and earning an open-level bid to the USA GJNC event later this summer. Key contributors this weekend included:
Julia Hunt Julia Hunt 6'1" | MB Holy Cross (Covington) | 2024 State #11 Nation KY – One of the top prospects in the 2024 class in Kentucky, Hunt was outstanding once again for her team on both sides of the ball at the net. She is a high flyer and often overpowered opposing blockers with her arm through a variety of attack points. Her length and elevation also added big contributions defensively as she has great lateral quickness to close down opposing hitters. She has elite potential and should garner a lot of attention on the recruiting scene nationally.
Alivia Skidmore Alivia Skidmore OH St. Henry | 2024 State #64 Nation KY – Another high flyer on this squad, Skidmore is a huge factor on the left side and often found her opportunities up and over the block all weekend. She elevates with ease and continues to develop high quality arm control to move the ball around to score with range that balances the heat she can bring. She should also be one that begins to get a lot of attention early given her athleticism and point scoring ability.
Lilly Gillespie Lilly Gillespie 5'8" | OH Turpin | 2024 State OH – A primary attacker opposite of Skidmore, Gillespie is highly effective in her own right as a true six rotation prospect. She has a good foundation as a hitter that involves good footwork, momentum build, and a big lift that results in aggressive arm control at the top of her jump. She scored her fair share of points this weekend including some key termination in the biggest moments. At 5’8, she makes a big impact.
Abby Yoder Abby Yoder 5'10" | S Kings | 2024 State #101 Nation OH – The floor leader showed great command of the court and her team’s offense throughout the event. She created great balance and got a lot of hitters involved over the course of each match that helped to create space for her big arms when needed most. She continues to mature in her leadership and decision making as her skills advance regarding her tempo and location. She also had quality moments on the defensive side.
Elizabeth Tabeling Elizabeth Tabeling 5'7" | DS/L St. Henry | 2024 State #127 Nation KY – The libero on this team, Tabeling is very skilled and not phased at all by the intensity and pressure of the big tournament stage. She has great instincts and pursues the ball with confidence and efficiency in her movement. Her quickness contributes to her range and she is effective at keeping her team in system offensively in serve receive and in support of the their transition game.
Kaleigh Frietch Kaleigh Frietch 5'8" | DS/L St. Ursula | 2024 State OH – Another key element to this team’s serve and pass game as well as defense in the back row, Frietch is a competitor. She also helps solidify their first contact control and efficiency that allows their big arms to go to work. She prepares with good balance and vision that leads to good first-step pursuit. She is a critical factor of their back row impact that matches well the key contributions that their point scorers provide and has led to their high-level success all club season.
