There was plenty of talent on display during this high school season so let’s continue our list of top players from the high school season. Let’s take a look at the top middle blockers.
Madison Szabo (Park Ridge)
Szabo was a key piece this season for Park Ridge as she is a part of a lethal 1-2 combo. She was lethal in the middle offensively and defensively helping lead Park Ridge to a sectional semifinal. Her length gave opponents fits as she averaged roughly 8 kills and 2 blocks a match. She finished the year with 112 kills, 31 blocks and 27 digs.
Ciara Rheiner (Pinelands)
Rheiner had one of the best finishes of the season as she became unstoppable in the sectional tournament to lead Pinelands to a sectional title. In her four matches, she had at least 9 kills, including 19 in the semifinal match. She got into a zone where nobody could stop her which led her to finish with 103 kills, 17 blocks and 59 digs.
Madison Floyd (Rancocas Valley)
Floyd was the offense at times for Rancocas Valley. The squad would run their offense through her and rightfully so as she had 106 kills. But she would impact the match in any way she can through a block, a dig, an ace, etc. Her game is complete and helped lead Rancocas Valley to a solid season. She finished with 106 kills, 20 blocks, 89 digs and 35 aces.
Mary Huegel (Colts Neck)
Huegel like Floyd was one who would do it all for her squads success as she led Colts Neck to a sectional semifinal. She has a live arm and knows how to utilize angles for her swing. But her unsung success is how great she is defensively. She has a knack for being in the right spot to get a dig and is a very good passer. She finished the season with 96 kills, 10 blocks, 141 digs and 36 aces.
Sandra Starcevic (Highland Park)
Lastly, we have Starcevic who absolutely lit it up this year. She ensured she was impacting the match if one part of her game was not going well. Her length caused her opponents problems as she finished with 83 kills and 82 blocks. Yes you heard me correctly, 82 blocks. She has a quick first step which allows her to be in position in no-time at all. She led Highland Park all the way to a sectional final.
